Is anyone else having reliability issues with their seagate drives?

I've bought 4 as of late and none of them lasted more than 6 months. Got some good backup habbits now :D

2x drives failed in my macbook pro
1x laptop drive failed in an external casing
1x desktop hard drive gonerz

None of the drives were mistreated. I dont even move my laptop when its switched on.

Now it seems that they do not replace the drives with brand new ones - rather remanufatured / fixed & recertified ones. Totally peeved. Getting new unreliable crap replaced with old unreliable crap that has broken already. Joy.

You should be able to insist on brand new replacement ones, not Refurbished according to the new CPA act.

I would advice that you insist on this, Seagate is actually according to the lasted RMA stats more reliable even than the WD Caviar Black drives.

Over the past 3yr or so I've seen more and more failing drives ... the only drives I buy now is the ones with 5yr guarantees, and I always make sure I have at least 1 spare

We use a large quantity of seagate HDD's and have had a low return rate IMO

Have had several hard drive failures in recent years. The ones that were delivered to me by general couriers (e.g. those from on-line shopping sites) have mainly failed. Perhaps they suffered from being bounced over speed bumps and potholes for several hours before getting to me.

The drives I have picked up directly from primary dealers who know how to handle them have been OK (so far).

Maybe this is all coincidence.

Thanks for the CPA info GeOgre.

Maybe I just have bad mojo.

I've never seen refurbished drives being issued as replacements?

It's a definite reality overseas, I don't know to what extent it is happening to local customers though. They are easy to spot, refurb drives. They are labelled as such.
