Hey guys.
So I managed to blow one of the components on the PCB of my Seagate HDD. I got some data on it that I would like to get off.

Does any one have a dead HDD with this particular board number: 100724095
Models:
ST1000DM003 ST2000DM001 ST3000DM001

Which component? Pics?

Maybe it's just the tvs diodes which you can simply remove to get the drive running again?

Thanks, here is a pic. This is the only component i can see that looks like its fried. Any suggestions on where to take it to get something like this soldered, thats if this is available.

I used a sata to molex converter and plugged the molex in the wrong way, well it just touched and shorted and i could smell the burn on the pcb.

One of those pakistani cellphone repair shops can do this.

That does appear to be the 5V tvs diode which would have popped if fed 12V like you did, there's another one on the right edge of the pcb just above the notch. The tvs diodes are there for protection, if they failed you can remove them and the drive should work again but you lose the protection so you should really just replace them. I would also check those 5V & 12V 0Ohm resistors to the right of the tvs you circled, circle & square signs on them.

Where in CT are you located?

Thanks for your help, i'm in Milnerton. Will see uf i can find a place to help.
I only have a 2tb board. Sorry
Thank you for getting back, appreciate it

Removing that component should get drive up and running again if there is no further damage, as ponder said.

We can provide a replacement PCB and ROM migration if needed too.

Try something first. Cut the component off completely first. try the Hdd again. something tells me you plugged it into high voltage. like a laptop charger into external or something.

Dammit. Mr BIT managed to beat me again. Saved 3 drives like this already.
