Nasa detects signal from Voyager 2 after losing contact due to wrong command

Nasa is listening for any peep from Voyager 2 after it lost contact with the spacecraft billions of miles away.

Hurtling ever deeper into interstellar space, Voyager 2 has been out of touch ever since flight controllers accidentally sent a wrong command more than a week ago that tilted its antenna away from Earth. The spacecraft’s antenna shifted a mere 2%, but it was enough to cut communications.
 
Can't believe they can't factor in a safety net for exactly this. Some system that would have the antenna re-align automatically... I guess the 18 hours for transmissions to reach earth would be a barrier.

I think this was bound to happen at some point. It was literally made using 1970s technology so is older than a fair amount of Mybb users.

It's incredible that it has lasted so long so we should look at it that way. We can hope that an alien civilization one day finds it. It has the golden records on it which contains info about humanity in the hope an alien civilization finds it. Apparently the records will be readable for 1 billion years.

It will in October, it realigns automatically every 6 months. Amazing that they actually thought of it and built it as a feature decades ago

Yeah, it's pretty incredible when considering that it has systems that are significantly older than the 3310 or Windows 95.
 
can send a probe into space for over 40 years but we can't see the list
