Second ADSL account or Sattelite?

Hi All

So far I'm loving ADSL (even though it's not all it could be) but I see I'm going to need some more traffic. Which is a better option - to go for a second ADSL account at about R300 a month (that price is from MWeb - anywhere else cheaper?) or to get a sat and card, and then to go for a sat connection (for about R325 a month)?

As i see it, the benefits of dual ADSL are:

6 gigs of bandwidth, up and down - should be plenty (3 gigs lasts about 20 days atm)

relatively constan 512k speeds.

Benefits of Sat + ADSL are:

Split service (when my ADSL goes down, whip out the 56k and use it with the sat)

Unlimited bandwidth

Possible higher speeds? (but sometimes lower speeds - the peeps who have used it, what is the case?)

If you say 6GB is enough for you for the month then I'd say go with the second account. That way you won't have to fork out money for hardware for the satellite account.

well, the thing is I will need to spend about R300 a month either way, so I may aswell invest in the hardware and get the better solution? 6 gigs should do fine, but I could always use more

Well, the way I look at it is why spend R300 for 3GB when you can spend R300 for unlimited transfer? Personally I would rather have slightly slower speeds with unlimited down/uploads than faster speed with a limit. I personally don't like Telkom dictating to me what I can and can't do with my internet connection.

So if you don't mind the outlay of money for extra hardware and you can make use of the freedom to do as you please while onliner, then there's no question about which you should choose.

It's just really sad that Telkom has put us in this position.
