Second hand car

We had purchased a second hand car about a week and a half ago, they charged us 4500 for licensing and for it to be put through COR (road worthiness), it passed and all was good. We collected and took it through to be serviced and the guy said he will be happier if we put it through a mock test at the testing grounds as we found a few errors on the car. We took it through the test and it failed on a few things. Where do we stand with a test that passed and a test that a week later failed? There were not even light bulbs in the lights, could we be looking at a possible bribe paid to get the test done and passed to close the deal asap?

Good question. I've taken my mother's car for a test a few years back. That car was in mint condition, having only done 9k in a year. It failed due to some exhaust mounting and a coil spring. :wtf:

I go and buy a second hand car, passes road worthiness, and when I collect, the brake lights don't work :erm:
 
I'm pretty sure that when they issue a RWC they also state that it's not a guarantee that the vehicle is 100%. They'll just say that when they looked at it, it was fine, and anything that's not working went wrong after they'd looked at it.
 
It is ridiculous, i had gotten legal advise and was told we have the right to take it to the closest place which is bates gm as it is a Chevrolet, they went through the car and found all the issues received a quote of 11000 Rand which we had forwarded to the dealership saying this is what your sale failed on, refuses to pay to have it fixed here locally but we have to take it to him and they will repair it. How do we trust them now although.

Yeah, the vehicle will not be 100%, but surely things that will fail a RWC MUST be working. Regardless of what they'll say, how do they get it through the test with things obviously being broken for a while?

Which company did the test the first time? Take the new test results back to the dealer and ask them how this is possible.
 
But i mean the lights are missing, not blown or anything, just simply missing.

We have, it is currently being investigated by Bates but the manager at the dealership does not seem interested.

It sounds like the dealership you purchased car from is far away.

You will be out of pocket for travelling expenses. I don't understand why they won't allow you to get car repaired at a dealership close to you.
 
I am situated in Margate, car was bought in Durban it is about 140km. (I don't understand why they won't allow you to get car repaired at a dealership close to you) This is what bothers me too.

I know some dealerships that will get a car to pass road worthy and technical inspection without even inspecting the car .Simply stated dealerships are good business for these guys and a small cut on the side will go a long way .

Miosa won't help him in this case cause he signed the documents and drove the car off the floor meaning he accepted the car .Dealers standpoint :Prove to us that you did not cause these errors in the time from accepting the car until now (look it even passed the test when we took it ) .
