What's your guys take on buying second hand ram? I've found a great deal for 2x2GB Corsair sticks for R500 (second hand of course) Was gonna buy 2x2GB sticks of generic for R560 (new)

Any chance of them failing or so on? Haven't found out the age of them yet but will do asap. Also what age should I not buy (such as if they're older than a year, should I turn it down?)

Thanks :)

Make sure you get the invoices - even with lifetime warranty you might have a hard time swapping it out without the invoice.

No problem with second-hand RAM. Obviously get it tested with Memtest.

And remember - lifetime means for the time that the product is on the shelves, not for ever. :D

Some Distis only honor warranty with original purchaser (proof on invoice require) for warranty/swap outs! be careful! very careful, as said in the classics!

second hand ram is awesome because damn in all my years of pc's i have hardly ever seen broken memory compared with mobo's cpu, gpu's etc.

I've seen plenty of RAM sticks kicking the bucket. But then again all of them are cheap brands.

Well I spoke to the guy. He said he bought the ram in the USA but he said he still has the invoice. If the ram was to break, would I go about claiming the warranty from the computer store he bought it from in the USA?

Normally if anything is wrong with memory it's like that from the start unless someone's doing something crazy or irresponsible with it. If you find second hand memory for a price you like go for it.

Brand names rarely make a difference, though many will make a song and dance about saying that, unless you're planning on overclocking don't worry to much about the make.

It might not be worth trying to get it replaced from the USA if something goes wrong since it's so cheap to begin with.

I would take the new generic for 560 and then not have to worry about warranty, has it been oced, etc etc etc
