Saw CT thread and thought surely Jozi and Pretoria have better ones or as good?

Oh ... *subscribes*

Got furniture and stuff to sell in the next couple of weeks

Please tell us of good second hand shops preferably charity shops where the profit goes to a good cause.

Surely guys know of good places. Best secondhand shop I know is Cash Crusaders/Convertors in Queensland in same mall as Spar. Good prices and negotiable.
Edit: queenswood

Best pawn shop is the Cash Converters in Hillfox, Roodepoort, Gauteng.
Picked up some awesome stuff there several times now.

I don't like some of them due to selling items at ridiculous prices when they don't know the actual value or are trying to make big profit.

Saw an airbrush for sale at one for R750. same airbrush including delivery from ebay was R150 at the time.

This is what I do... in the shop I open up iPad and check the item online.
If I see they are charging a crazy price, I either tell them this is BS, or I simply don't buy the item.

Very often, they don't know the value of items, and I know they pay very little for the item, but sell it at, approximately 75-100% profit. I once sold some stuff I couldn't get sold here or on Carbonite, to the local one, and they wanted to give me like R50 for a bookshelf I paid R700 for.

The one in Hillfox is good, they dont try this too much. The others, well let's just say I nearly put my fist in their faces. They wanted to sell a video camera, that only does 720p, for R2599. I bought a high-end Samsung that does Full HD at 60fps from the Hillfox store, at R1299. Bargain, seeing that new, they are going for closer to R3k.

Yea I do pretty much the same.
Ended up buying a much better kit for around R750 from Jimnettes in the end.

If you are on Facebook. There is a group called Te Koop/Te Ruil.

Awesome place for selling if your prices are good. Not so good place to buy because some people don't have a clue about what stuff cost. I have picked up some bargains though.

Don't be frightened by the Afrikaans titel of the page. Lots of stuff happens in Afrikaans but there are more and more English posts daily.

Sungardens Hospice in Lynnwood. They don't buy, you donate, but the money goes for a very good cause. If you want to get money, then cash converters in Queenswood is a safe bet.
For antiques, there is a legendary shop in Pierneef Avenue, Rietondale - can't recall the name.

The wife's favourite place for shopping.....crap....anyways got a good cheap printer there, with ink cartridge. Was cheaper to buy that than my current printer cartridge's. But it is for a good cause and I do see sometimes some decent bargains there.

Where the garage is?

Is this te koop/te ruil safeguarded ito scamsters?

No. Same rules as Gumtree applies.

Risk is on you.

But the admin is very active on the page and I do believe they try to keep it as scam free as possible.

I found a fantastic pet carrier there: cheap cheap and as I do mosaics I often find old chipped pots and vases that I can renovate.

The antique store is called Bellbottoms: corner of 30th and Pierneef avenue, Waverley. It looks grotty from the outside, but inside...well, you can spend hours there

Prices at bellbottoms?
You can get bargains there. Lots of stuff from the 40s, some big pricy pieces and smaller bargain pieces, depends what you like. Prices are not excessive, some pieces may need some restoration. Here is a website listing some good antique and junkshops in Pretoria http://www.antiqueroute6pretoria.co.za/index.html

There are elsewhere, of course, but shops south of the mountain (waterkloof etc) tend to be more "exclusive" with rip-off prices.
