looks like telkom's monopoly is here to stay.

I think congratulations are due all round don't you...

Firstly. Well done ICASA - yet again you proved that you are lame and toothless and not prepared to take a stand in favour of the citizens of this country. You have failed us yet again.... We thank you...

Well done Dr. Ivy it looks like you will end up exiting your office with one of the biggest blunders in the telco industry in this country attributed to your term. Shame - you had the chance to leave with your head held high....

Telkom - EXTRA well done. Say no more....

What are the chances???

What about this WTO mandate that we have to have a "Duopoly" by the end of the year(As per ITWeb's post)? Wont that mean things will have to be rushed along now?

My understanding of the matter:

Transtel and Eskom are going to get the licence now...

its been 18 months, i think, since they rejected the last two bidders. The only hope is the minister sees the light or implements a interim measure.

Frankly, given who the candidates are, I was relieved. At least they didn't award the SNO to buddies. In this case no news is good news (kind-of).

I don't think for a femtosecond that the SNO will improve things for us. The basic problem will remain: State regulation and control. The only solution is an open market, without the S in SNO. Duopolies are still enforced by the police.

Even IF it happens, it leave both Telco's in the hands of the state.

Its like there 2 co's that sell toffees in the country.....
And I have the controlling stake in both of them.

Where does it leave the consumer. Choose between the devil and the deep blue sea?
