Hi there,

I'm very close to taking delivery of a secondhand car for VW MasterCars. They have performed AA and VW checks.

What should I be checking/looking out for before taking delivery? What are dead giveaways for abuse?

I'm having them replace the windscreen, new floormats, wheel alignment and balancing and giving the car a valet.

Anything else I could/should ask for?

Well obvious things to look for is signs of accident damage, over spray, check the inner bonnet nuts and bolts etc, take the car for a drive ALONE, open the window and turn the radio off.

Others will be more helpful I'm sure.

And aa is a load of carp IMO :p

What year model and milage?

AA once had to check a car I bought.
Dealer gave me a few loose screws they forgot to put back.
Look for service record book.
When last was cam belt replace.

Just curious.

What I always fail to understand is how people can buy a car like that, drive it for like a year with low mileage and sell it making a huge loss.

That age and mileage would probably make it a demo, in which case the OP really has nothing to worry about. It would have been well maintained, but on the downside it would also have been driven by 250 different tossers on road tests!! :p

and by the reps on the weekends, don't say it doesn't happen :p

that is plenty mileage for a demo imo?

We tend to sell our demo's around 30 000 k's, but that varies from dealership to dealership. The prices are artificially written down every month, and it usually takes 9 months to a year before your "demo" becomes a good buy - otherwise it's beneficial to buy a new car with a decent discount.
