Hey everyone,

Any of you have any experiences selling or buying secondhand consoles? How did you pay or get paid? Did you meet in person or use a courier? Are there any signs to look out for of someone trying to scam you?

Use a site like Carbonite (https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?categories/consoles.166/)

Try to avoid completely new sellers without any feedback.
Always try to meet in person in a public place.
Use instant EFT if the seller is good with that (you generally don't want to walking around with wads of cash).
If something feels off just leave it, it's not worth it.

I don't buy much, but sell stuff every so often and I use the same rules above.

And of course, the golden rule:

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Donno what you wanna buy just be mindful there was a recent hack at Sony leaking PS3 ID's

Loads of console getting banned so have no access to PSN to update games/OS. If you going to buy a PS3 just make sure you not buying a dead/dud

Sold my PS3 years back. Told the buyer to meet me at the car wash. There was a TV there to test it on. Was only like R2k so not much cash.

Wait what?
This is concerning.

I've bought twice. Met up in a public place and paid in cash both times. I prefer buying from a long time member on a site like MyBB, SA Gamer or Carbonite than Gumtree, OLX etc.

Not only that but https://old.reddit.com/r/PS3/ also had a recent spike of consoles with 8002A227 error code.

Only reason I mentioned it is cause OP has to look out for banned consoles when buying second hand. The "leak" is not the only way this can happen. A new'er Xbox One or PS4 can also be banned cause of other reasons like cheats and hacks. A seller can then try and get rid of the console to some other unsuspecting buyer.

Holy cow!!! but second hand console prices dropping like crazy?

I remember just end of last year looking around that average price was above R6-5k for PS4/XBOne's and about R3K for PS3/360. PS4 Pro's even went up to R8K

Just saw now some XBOne/Ps4's touching and going bellow R4K and PS3/360 even going as low as R1.5-1K

Is this cause of new gen or covid economic's?

Couldn't agree more.

I just recently used carbonite again, after many years of inactivity.
But the rating system still invokes a lot of trust in the community.

I didn't hesitate to buy and do an immediate EFT to a member in PE with a long history and 40+ positive ratings, with no negative feedback. Receieved my Xbox Series S via PostNet about a week later, but we both knew about the delay because he lives quite far from a major centre. But I was informed and agreed to everything along the way.

Also recently done a couple of mybb classifieds purchases. But for some reason I try and keep it local and collect here. Even though there are people with high post counts, it'd still have to be someone that's got a lot of rep here or that I've come to know.

But generally, there's not really anything that I find peeking my bargain hunter interest around here.
