SecretEATS began in March 2012 at a stunning private home overlooking the Atlantic seaboard. Since then, we've hosted our evenings in abandonded warehouses, art galleries, exclusive wine cellars and more. Our evenings are all about delicious food, incredible wine and meeting new, interesting and exciting people around a shared dinner table. Our promise to you is a simpy scrumptious 4 or 5-course meal prepared by one of our Secret chefs, generous pours from some of the Cape's top wine farms and an unforgettable evening that leaves you hungry for more. See what we've got on tap for this month below or pop us an email on [email protected] for more personalised attention.

Just bought tickets for this event. I just thought that it's a cool concept and a great way of meeting like-minded people.

Also, they only do small groups so it's really intimate. They also operate in all major cities - Cape Town, Pretoria, Jhb, and even Durban :D

So, for the brave ones out there, here's something new to try.

Cool concept. Seriously thinking of going to one...

And, please let us know how it went! :)

Brave?

Dunno about that, but at R1500 for my wife and I, it seems a bit steep. Or I'm too cheap. But that amount for a dinner for two is rough.

Did you know that a food-pairing can set you back as much as R1600 per person ? And I'm speaking from experience here. The R1200 that I just paid for my partner and I, are cheap compared to that.

They not aiming at people like you then.

It is steep but its for people who would spend 1500 on an eating experience.

What on earth is "food pairing"?

Food and wine pairing, but I just call it food pairing because I assume that people know what I'm talking about.

It's really more of an experience as opposed to just eating out. The chef and the sommellier have put their heads together to come up with dishes that would compliment their selection of wines, or vice versa.

Sounds crap, as I am not interested in sharing a table with a bunch of strangers. I would probably be so lucky as to be seated next to some blowhard that can't stop talking about him/herself or Julius Malema.

Spare a thought for the person who has to sit next to the vegan.

Food and wine pairing,

I do that at home. Box wine goes with everything...

In all fairness, it seems like a good idea, just not for me. I don't generally like surprises, and I can barely endure sitting through a meal with family, nevermind a bunch of strangers.

No man :D. I'm trying to encourage him.

I feel like some people will just be a pain and really shouldn't be convinced.

This is the kind of thing I love and nothing spoils it more than people who don't have an appreciation for good food.

Update

So, the whole run-up to this event was quite interesting.

Firstly, we had to fill out a questionnaire to tell the organisers a bit about ourselves - this would come in handy later.

Then, we only received the final details for the event on the actual day of the event - yes, that's how secret it was.

To new Uber users, there was a promotional code that they could use to the event. We just used UberBlack to be fancy, and due to the fact that it would cost us the minimum because we were fairly near to the venue. Oh, and Uber was one of the event sponsors.

The actual dinner was four courses, paired with four Thandi wines The courses were prepared by a mobile chef - the name of the company escapes me - and we're talking cuisine here, not just food; small servings but very tasty. Wine was bottomless, or whatever you call it, and you could even request one from an earlier course, if that was your favourite.

To get people to socialise, we were handed these cards describing someone in the room - info that they got from the questionnaire. You then had to find the person. This made for very interesting company, and also, socialising outside of the company that you came with.

All in all, it was a very interesting concept and something that I would definitely do again; not regularly, but again.
