Hey ladies and gentlemen,

So I'm sitting in a predicament and need help.

I live in a sectional title complex and the tenant that was living with me has moved to Australia. That was 2 years ago. He made no indication that he will be returning and upon leaving said nothing regarding the vehicle. I have no contact with the owner of the vehicle and I have no paperwork for the vehicle.

I have contacted TMPD (Tshwane Metro Police) regarding the vehicle and they say there is nothing they can do as it's not on public roads.

I need to get the vehicle removed, does anyone have any experience/advice on the route I can take?

TIA

Unfortunately towing will probably cost you or the BC as you cannot recover the costs of the towing from the owner. Unless you have the keys? You could probably sell the vehicle after a 90 notice in your newspapers.

Tow it to just outside the complex, leave it on the road, and make it the municipality's problem...

Break the window... put it in neutral and tow it outside the complex yourself... leave it on the verge and it will be gone in a few days.

Someone posted awhile back on how to take ownership of an abandoned vehicle... try find the thread.

Take ownership, sell it for costs.

Seriously though. Just put a letter in a plastic sleeve from the Body Corporate on the vehicle's windscreen requesting the owner's to remove the vehicle within 90 days, failing which the vehicle will be sold to recover costs.
You guys have every right to do that.

So no-one's asked what car it is, and how much it's potentially worth? (probably not a great deal but hey)

Renault Clio (1.4 I think, older model), hail damage from the storm we had 2 years back. The vehicle hasn't moved in the past 2 years, so I'm not sure if there's any seizing in the moving parts and the battery is very possibly dead.

If anyone wants the vehicle, they can gladly come take it. I just want to be rid of it.

A towing company will most likely remove it for you if you tell them they can keep the vehicle.

Was it me?

A guy owed me some cash and left his bakkie in my yard so I took ownership of it after the police told me the same thing as OP. I got hold of a guy who had a workshop, I charged him R7k for the bakkie to break up for spares.

Please don't leave it for criminals to take! That literally just empowers them, and now they have a car to follow you home in!

Rather just call a scrapping company, I'm sure they have dealt with this before and get them to come and collect it and scrap it

Don't think so - was some abandoned vehicle in Seapoint I think... but ... probably what you said probably applies.

Contact a scrap yard. Or a mechanic/panel beater that specialises in French cars. I'm sure they'd gladly take it off your hands for free

Why for free? He should get something for it :-)

Hi, can you perhaps send me the details on the vehicle? Licence plate, chassis and vin?
