Security: BBOS7 vs 10

Possibly more secure; QNX, the core OS, has plenty of built-in security features, and things like Balance provide even more security.

Thanks, I'm a newbie to this aspect but it seems that one has to pay careful attention to this when choosing a smartphone, especially if you are a professional person.

I'll say iOS is the most secure OS because they don't you do anything

iOS is still second to BBOS as it is even harder to hack into BB. For this reason, it is even banned in some countries. As I have iPhone, I can honestly say that I miss the QWERTY keyboard. BBOS is always interesting to me as it is the only alternative to Apple that I will ever trust. Just follow the link in my original post here to see what I mean.

Apple is the only ecosystem that allows for USB data sync between Mac + iPad + iPhone, using native apps and not third party such as Outlook. I am not sure how BB10 will interact with a Macbook, but I won't use Android at all. Between these two brands - Apple and Blackberry - one does have the best available on the globe.

If at least as good as the older BBOS version, then all is well. As long as they did not compromise on that - a BB app developer holds the opinion that BBOS is based upon Android. It cannot be as BBOS is older than Android, to the very best of my knowledge but I do stand corrected.

BB10 is based on QNX, which is a Unix-like operating system that goes back a long way, in the same way Android is based on Linux. That said, BB10 was built around a good security model, where Android is far more permissive. BB10 was approved for secure government use in the US before it was even released, and currently, is the only mobile OS that can be used "as is" by the Department of Defence.

Perhaps the distant relationship via Unix-alikeness is what leads that programmer to believe that it is Linux-based. I am much impressed by Linux and its secure environment but, sadly, the same cannot be said of its descendant Android. Inversely, MS Windows is a malware paradise whilst Windows Phone seems quite secure. Apple seems to be the only complete and secure ICT solution - BB being the only other environment that I will trust; just a pity that they don't build entire ICT systems. Ubuntu Phone is on its way but even there, some user tracking and/or security issues were found in the Unity desktop environment, so I would be reluctant to use an Ubuntu PC + Tablet + Phone myself. It seems that, in Android, not even approved apps are safe!

Anyhow, BB is worth its weight in gold and anyone choosing Android over berry juice is perhaps not well-informed. I just heard about yet another Android hacks where data was stolen from about a hundred thousand devices (HTC??). Early 2013 saw well over half a million Galaxy S3's wiped remotely after user data was stolen from those, first. When we had no internet, when I started out in IT, data security was only an issue in the corporate networked environment. Nowadays, even the retired teacher traversing the Richtersveld need to watch his back as his pension money can go amiss while he enjoys a braai under a starlit sky. And his own smartphone being the trojan horse that ferries in the cybercriminals.

I have started school on a slate and stylus; we have come full circle with the exception that no real damage was done if Jannie or Sannie wiped my slate with a wet cloth. It was even Y2K compliant, never crashed, never depleted batteries and neither did it display spam.

Very refreshing post. I still can't understand how so many informed geeks go into full on nerd rage when android is not praised as the best mobile OS ever. It was a huge focus at DEFCON a few years ago with incredible effort put into "managing" devices without noticeable battery or data usage. The situation only got worse since then.

If you want security BB10 or iOS(without jailbreak) are the only options. Securing android takes too much time and even then it's still not trustworthy.
