Security camera recommendations

I have an all TP-Link VIGI setup. I can't complain. The ecosystem is... okay. It was a buggy start, but updates resolved most issues in particular to sensitivity. From my options, it was TP-Link or Ezviz and the latter lacked in the NVR department.

People are happy with Hikvision. Just don’t tell the Americans about it.

NOTE: When you buy TP-Link, or any connected brand. Buy the latest revision. Feature sets aren't the same.

Slightly off topic sorry.

Has anyone played with a Jetson and the Deepstream SDK?

Hi All

Currently replacing an old analogue system with full on PoE

Any suggestions/advice or objections?

4x bullet cams

2x dome cams

I just need an 8 port PoE NVR unit now, anything in the R2 - R3k max range I have budget for.

Anyway, update on this.

It's all ordered but the NVR cannot reach any of the cameras.
ONVIF protocol, but keep getting "network unreachable" for each camera.

- NVR gets an ip address from my router, 192.168.50.229
- NVR's internal ip address for cams, 192.168.254.xxx
- All cams have an 192.168.254.x ip address but no connection to the cams from the NVR.
- All cameras has been reset, even the NVR too.

I cannot access the web interface of the cams, because it seems like they're not getting any Ip addresses from the NVR.

The PoE connection is succesfull, I can see the cameras are pulling watts.

Anything else to try?
IMOU PoE cameras with HiLook NVR with 8 PoE ports, it should be compatible, right?

At the time when I evaluated my options, I was looking at ecosystems. What was most accessible was TP-Link's VIGI. I could have considered a hybrid solution. What was locally available, specifically for NVR, Ezviz didn't provide me with options, hence it lacked.

All I wanted was an easy-to-plug DIY solution. Going with TP-Link I had some issues, not with the NVR, but the cameras. Then they rolled out an update and all was well. Though my setup is Wi-Fi capable I don't use it, everything is wired. Concerning TP-Link's support, they do work with their customers or otherwise their community. They are open to communication and providing possible solutions.

TP-Link and Ezviz weren't the only brands that I was considering. I could have gotten more for less. All in all, in terms of quality I can't complain.

Ezviz is owned by Hikvision so a Hikvision NVR might have done the job.

I'm also leaning towards tplink...tapo or vigi...I have been looking at others aswel...reolink, Imou, botslab, ezviz etc.
You mentioned you "could have gotten more for less" if you didn't go with vigi, So what would that have been?

For now, that all things are running without issue, I am happy with my decision. At the time, I would have considered Hikvision as an alternative. It is an accessible product. I can walk into any place that specializes in security, and Hikvision would be an option.

Hi All,

I've been looking into cctv options, looking for recommendations on really good cameras.
Preferably i want a setup that notifies me when it detects a human, i'm currently not sure if i want 24/7 recording or simply when motion is triggered. I would love a wireless option, as this makes installation a lot easier but people have pointed out some of the type of flaws with wireless setups. I want at least 2K resolution as i've seen the benefits on the details they display

Currently looking a the following two cameras as front runners
TP-Link VIGI C540-W-4 4MP
eufycam 3 s330

Just get a kakload of these and set them up in every room and all over your garden as if you're setting up a dolby atmos surround system.
That way you can see the action from multiple angles, which negates the need for high resolution.

You can also set some up to point downwards. That way you can identify a potential masked intruder by the brand and size of their shoes.

Which model cameras do you have?
I see the vigi c385 has some good specs at a reasonable price in comparison to other brands with similar specs.

A mix of VIGI C540 and VIGI C540W. They are all wired so don't/can't use the wireless of those capable of it, but if the need or situation arises can use them wirelessly. All are mounted on corner brackets so they are capable of full rotation. There was a bit of a quarrel with a neighbour for putting cameras they feel would invade their privacy, but that is worked out and there will be C540V coming up in those areas.

The cameras aren't only for security. It is also for monitoring my animals, watching the pool, access control, etc.

What NVR do you have?

What NVR do you have?

NVR1008. I am upgrading the NVR; not everything is running off the NVR. I'm considering a brand change, just for the sake of affordability. Also, the wireless cameras I have are not PoE.

Just for caution. If you go with TP-Link or any other similar brand, do try to get the latest version of the model. All of my current hardware is V1 models. The newer versions have better features and improved support for future-proofing.

I've been looking again to install security cameras around the house. Need to install 3 cameras. Really liking the Reolink cameras. A question I have though, is IR enough or do I have to go with the fancy full color night vision etc stuff? I basically need 3 good PoE cameras that can support SD recording in the beginning (will add more cameras and NVR later)

Was thinking to start with this camera (x3) as a start:
- Reolink RLC-510A
(https://www.geewiz.co.za/ip-cameras...-with-personvehicle-detectionp320-model-.html)

But then there are also these two which looks good - but a bit out of my price range:
- Reolink RLC-810A
(https://www.geewiz.co.za/ip-cameras...camera-with-personvehicle-detection-p330.html)
- Reolink CX410
(https://www.geewiz.co.za/ip-cameras...camera-with-true-full-color-night-vision.html)

So nt quite sure what to do? Any advice?

I have the older RLC-410s which are the very base models in the Reolink lineup - been running them for almost 6 years with no issues. The IR is decent - not groundbreaking. Works well to about 10-15m given all the light interference and pollution etc. Am able to get the cameras into Home Assistant without an NVR - i previously used Blue Iris as well with no issues but currently just running it bare

thanks! I've decided to get a Reolink RLC-510A and a Reolink CX410. Going to be interesting :)

If you haven't already bought a camera yet, then look at the Tapo C120. I have a few of them and they are perfect with excellent quality.
