Can anyone please recommend a firm that installs security doors (for example, 'trellidors') and burglar bars in Fourways area? There are obviously several firms advertised on the internet but it would be good to hear of someone's personal experience.

Give these guys a shout http://www.tonicdor.co.za/ although they are Krugersdorp based, they will still come out and do the correct measurements, fitment etc. Way more competitive with their pricing. I had a slamlock 'trellidor' type fitted in 2013 - still no issues. Attempted break-in in 2016 (got the french doors open, but could not get the burglar doors open

I'm busy going through this process myself. I arranged with Maxidor to come and take measurements and we arranged for Friday the 10th.
The guy rocks up, does his thing, flip-flips around the issue of what I need etc. and then asks if he can send me a quote on Monday. It's been more than a week and I have received nothing from them. Not sure why a company would go through so much effort to waste everybody's time but I've basically scratched Maxidor off my list of companies I'll ever do business with. This is for clear polycarbonate bars which they also only quote in square meters instead of running meters like most other people would do.
That same afternoon I just got a feeling that I should call somebody else. Called Sheer Guard, the guy rocked up about 30min later, was clearly more clued up and I had a quote later that afternoon. The price looked good as well and I'm pretty much set on using them.
Just to get an alternative quote I sent DEFENDoor a mail with the meterage needed and asked them for an approximate quote.... dead silence.
Business must be good for these guys. Anyway (I PM'ed OP already) but if anybody is looking for somebody in Fourways that seems to know what they are doing and willing to do it: http://www.sheerguard.co.za/

Clear bars are obviously best if they have the inner foil to link to an alarm and are linked, so they will trigger the alarm if broken.
Or else, if not linked to alarm, hopefully they are just one layer in ones multilayer security system.

In a security complex. I don't want to live in a prison so as long as they delay the inevitable and cause a noise when somebody tries to saw them off then that's fine with me. You're never going to keep people who really want to get in out anyway.
Going to combine that with a motion sensor flood light in the yard which is where they'll most likely try to get in and then that's it. Hopefully it is enough for them to go to my neighbour's house instead.
