Sedans vs SUVs

Sedans have declined in popularity in recent years, with fewer options available now than ever before.

Well if you look at our roads, it makes perfect sense why people are rather buying SUVs.

Drove through the Langkloof in the EC over the Holidays and spent a few nights in some of the towns, damn did that place go backwards fast.

SUVs may have better clearance than sedans, but many don’t have the tyres to properly negotiate some of our “roads” any better than a sedan. Some (cough Mercedes GLA) don’t even have spare tyres.

I think a double cab bakkie is more suited for the roads like a land cruiser :ROFL::ROFL:

When you dig deeper, it's not as straightforward as it seems.

For example, the article mentions people are buying the Audi Q series over the regular models. Lets take the cheapest SUV and Sedan offerings from Audi

Audi Q2: 144mm ground clearance
Audi A3 Sedan: 160mm ground clearance.

Both specced with the same road tires.
