I have put in cameras at home, using Smart Meye using android. so at home it is working I can see it on my phone, but when I am not at home and want to check it, it does not work.
I am using adsl from Telkom, what am I doing wrong. What setting must I put in

When you're at home - your phone is connected your adsl (via wifi)? The cameras connect to the same network?

You'll need a Dynamic DNS setup of some nature to make it work.

Or an application running inside the network that will allow you to connect into it from a cloud type setup.

If the above doesn't make sense to you then I'll worry that you will soon put all your cameras on the internet for all to see. At the same time if you get someone else to do it for you...they'll likely give themselves access to it.

This is what it comes down to. If your cameras dont have a cloud setup however you might need to do port forwarding, but you might open your cameras for everyone.

First see if you can get DDNS sorted like SauronZA said

First check through a Cloud. If it is a Hikvision, you will have access to the cloud approach (no port fowarding here).
If not, then the DDNS is the next approach.

They normally punch out a connection to a management server via uPNP. Make your uPNP is turned on on the router.

Not the best from a security point of view but since millions of them are floating around working like that.. and that IS what you want (without DDNS and port mappings) then it should be fine.

The way it works is the camera creates a upnp port forward on your router, then reports to a server somewhere that this is me, this is the IP i'm at currently and the return port the client app should use to see me. Your phone app then can connect from anywhere on the Net.
