See the Hyperloop One in action

All these questions are answered in the original proposal sent out by Elon Musk. Please do yourself a favour and at least open it. It is a long document, but there are many things to consider, and this document addresses most of them. It explains how they will manage safety, what happens if the train stops, how they will achieve the vacuum etc. Not in detail, but enough to make sure it is practical. These guys wouldn't build a full scale test track if they weren't at least sure it would work and be economical.

The document is well worth the read, and there are a lot of calculations and simulations in there to prove the concept.

Thanks for this!

They will only be using a moderate vacuum, 100 Pa or 1mbar. That is easy enough to maintain...

Just reading his book, he's one incredible guy... a lot of the comments here explain why he is so successful... Find a solution not the problem, from what I remember (without reading Furpile's link) is it's about the cost of land and civil's between La and San Francisco, the hyperloop could be suspended near existing freeways and would be cheaper than the purposed solution between La and San Francisco.

People didnt think Tesla or SpaceX would be successful either, seems they were wrong.
This could be very cool.

Jip, and if I remember correctly from the link, the high speed train will only be going 300 km/h, so the journey will still take 2+ h, with the hyperloop he want a carriage every 30 seconds, going 900 km/h, and all of this at not a whole lot more monies.

To be fair both SpaceX and Tesla are only successful from a technology standpoint, they have yet to prove they can be financially successful.

Personally I'm more curious to know if the hyperloop can be turned into a super high speed cannon if built like a ramp and if so, can I propose NKandla is the test site with its owner being the first test pilot ...
