On Hellopeter a complanaint said,
Telkom is absolutely RIDICULOUS! I pay R1300 a month for Telkom ADSL 4mbps connection on a 4 gig unshaped cap account.

What the *** can a person do with 4 gigs?! Online gaming takes up 4 gigs easily with data traffic to and from the servers!

America, Europe, Netherlands, they have speeds well in excess of 4mbps (oh, before I forget, we're LUCKY if we even REACH 400KBps international speeds!!!) and they have NO cap, and if they do, they merely slow down the connection speed afterwards, and they don't pay more than R200 (converted, obviously) a month!

For 50 US Dollars Americans get cable Internet, and cable TV :) Isn't that RIDICULOUS?!

Telkom is the reason why this country's digital economy is in the dark ages and we might all just as well be living in digital apartheid!

Telkom responded to them:
Telkom continuously strives to upgrade its product and service offerings to its customers and this is also the case with our 4Mbps service. At present most customers have expressed satisfaction with the 4Mbps service. This service was also largely responsible Telkom being voted the best fixed broadband choice in South Africa one more time by MYADSL. DSL 4Mbps made 2006 Editors Choice as well.

So because MYADSL voted them the BEST FIXED BROADBAND CHOICE, they are justified in their prices and the speeds offered. Well done guys!

Are there other 'fixed broadband choices' in SA?

Oh well - like my dad says - if you're going to give someone a gun dont be surprised when you get shot :o

Aren't they the ONLY fixed broadband choice???? It kind of makes them win by default even if they have -111111199999921414141414654 votes :) lol

Sure we have many wireless broadband offerings even though none is truly broadband.....Telkom is still not broadband anyway as far as im concerned...no matter if they have 100mbps connections they still reset you every 24 hours :p

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....Telkom's such a joke. Taking only the comments that they think works for them. Nevermind the other billion complaints.

But weren't Telkom the ones who said that MYADSL only represent a fraction of the ADSL community so MYADSL couldnt be taken for their views?

The complanant replied to Telkom:

I'm a member of MYADSL (www.mybroadband.com) and I've yet to meet a single other person - aware of Telkom's destructive impact on the South African economy - who approves of Telkom/ADSL. As one member on the forum said, "Telkom is also the ONLY fixed broadband choice in South Africa" so PLEASE... Don't try that one. MYADSL didn't exactly have many other options to vote on, now did they? I'd call that less than democratic.

And since you're so aware of MyADSL's votes. You'd also know that Telkom's ISP wasn't favoured.

South Africa has the HIGHEST ADSL/Telephony costs IN THE WORLD. That is a FACT. Please, dispute it.

Take Note:

So who was it? Come on fess up!

Their "fraction" is a result of their idiot attempts to provide "AFFORDABLE (yeah right!!)" internet. Us ADSL users only represent less than 1% of SA population so it must be a fraction of a fraction...ohhhhhhhhhh yessss it makes so much sense now!!!!!!!! lol no telkom must f off with their comments it makes me sick!!!!

Until they stop treating us like idiots I will expose as much hatred as I have for them. The only thing that earns respect IS respect.

Just because someone votes ABCD the best bank, does not mean that they are offering value for money. It just means that they are the best of the group. No one said they were satisfied with the service, just that it was the best choice currently available. Also, asking how your car goes does not have anything to do with asking about it's price. If Telkom actually charged what they should be charging for the SAT3 link then there would be a lot more choices. They are effectively propping up their own incompetence.

I am also sick and tired of telkom quoting "My ADSL" and that they say that they are South Africa's "Best Broadband" service and that I must use them for ADSL.

I am glad that I canncelled my tel line and went for Iburst last year. I am still using Iburst and will use them untill I can get cheaper/better/uncapped broadband

I think Telkom also forgot to mention they proudly won the "loser of the year" award...why didn't they mention that one as well?

Oh my granmothers word. I hate corporate monopolys. Well that telkom is the only one. AHAHAH Damn idiots. That comment sounds like a spoiled 13yearold girl bragging about winning. GAWD! Grow up, Your only fooling the idiots out there! IT and gamers are among the least on that voting list i bet you. Its like telling my ONLY sister she is the best out of all my sisters. Toolkom shot themself in the broadband.

What can we do, but sit and cry evertime our dsl gets reset every 24hrs. :(

The MyBroadband Report is not a vote.

The results are derived from user feedback, costs, and performance criteria using an undisclosed formula to rate the various offerings.

There is no vote.

The Mybroadbaod awards, on the other hand, were the result of voting.

And there Telkom won the 33.6k modem award. Don't see them bragging about that on HelloPeter!

ROFL ! well done to the guy who put this stuff on hellopeter, lol....:)

Lol...nice one from whoever it was. Whoever posted it care to own up so we can applaud you for your efforts (though probably fruitless one :( )

Telkom should just be straight forward:

Dear (fat wallet) customer,

We understand your concerns but as you've noted Paris Mashile has noted that there's no evidence of our ADSL services being expensive or as you harshly put it, extortionist, even though there were hundreds of submissions by corporates and users like yourself that we offer exorbitant prices.

You must understand running ADSL as a monopoly is expensive. Ivy needs her doughnuts, Paris needs some 'help' for educating his kids and other ANC members that fought for freedom need to get paid. This as a result is just costly and we need to recover that cost and make a miserly 1000% margin as well.

Your beloved best MyADSL fixed broadband company for the next 100 years (and proudly monopolistic),
Telkom
