Seedboxes and torrents- help please...

Most prefer paypal and there is a lot that also except credit cards, i am not sure which is the safest to use.
If i am correct seedbox would be safer to use, because a hosting company sells the dedi to a reseller which sells to u, so there is persons between u and any legal letters.
And if u use private trackers everyone would be quite safe and if any legal letters would be send the hosting company would get it.
That's how i understand it

ja and most dedis have a SETUP fee witch IMHO is ALOT !!!! OVH charges £49.99 ex. VAT for setup ... and then you need to buy the server and oh no ... only if you are rich ..
Oh ja and don't buy AeroVPS IMHO 100GB/BW is a verry verry small amount ... on one seed box I used 2.56 TB in a month .. so ja AeroVPS is expensive ... and BLA BLA BLA ... do not buy somthing from .co.za hosts like downstorm ... the pricing on that is criminal .... REALLY do NOT !!!!
here are a phew other sites 1. xirvik.com/ and http://www.seedbox.cc( I haven't used them though)

IF need help pM me

Again, that's where quality of service comes into play! http://www.findmyhosting.com/the-truth-about-unlimited-bandwidth/
We have a reason for B/W limits. If ISPs start shaping, it can affect the entire network, thus causing disruption of service to possibly everyone. Our B/W addons are really cheap as well, but it keeps a lid on things none the less. Again, we're after quality of service, and that's what separates us from our competition.

We've got professional support software, and live support, none of the companies mentioned do. As well as mobile support, which allows staff to get paged by our support center to sort out issues wherever they are.
This helps us to give you either instant support or minimal response times - time is money.
As mentioned, we have a coupon floating in this thread for an additional 200GB free: ' julybw '
We also send specials to random loyal customers regularly - CRM.
AND... we give you full root access, not only can you use it as a seedbox, you can use it for basically, well anything! Proxy, VPN, host websites, rapidshare downloads, etc etc etc. Full root = full administrative access, yes, no limit on torrents, private hard drive space, and only you use the IP assigned (dedicated IP) and only you use your virtual server!

So all these small things actually does add value to the whole package.

I used Santrex before getting my uncapped 4mb, very good service - just make sure you get a server thats NOT IN FRANCE.
Their laws recently became a thorn in many a users side (ones that where hosted in France)

I don't care plz tell me how much it would cost me on AeroVPS if I would use 1TB a month with a 100mbps link

OKY its a seed box and not a car ... if it stops working I don't mind w8ing a day for a answer to a support ticket..

OKY thats is nice :D:D

THIS is excellent had no idea you gave root access ... now it is starting to sound better

I see what you mean and well .. if I had the money I would buy this product instantly ...

@GTAMCN --> I had no idea torrenting could run in terabytes! ok, now that may change things.
It depends ... What if you dont use as much and lets say only use 300 or 200 GB b/w a month REMEMBER for your 1st month rather go with a place that has good support(you are new so you might need help ) instead of a lot of BW etc ...

@everyone --> Whats the preferred way of paying: credit cards or paypal? Because the next concern is the forcing of a seedbox company by a legal entity to hand over payment details (and thus personal contact data) compromising anonymity.
well I think the norm uses paypal but ja remember paypal adds a % of some sorts to the total amount aka. their piece of the pie $$$ ..

THEY are really BAD ............................................................................ cheap Seed box = B A D !!!!!

they say 100mbit lines but in theory (I think they over sell) you usually get like 2 - 4 MB/s ....

WITH SEED BOXES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!

Well this had been rather interesting so far: thanks for the input guys!

Now to further drive my knowledge, let me ask the next big marketing campaign out there regarding these seedboxes. This issue regarding torrentflux, transmission, utorrent and ruTorrent. Does it really matter which application I use to interact with torrents?

I did notice from my friends transmission seedbox setup, a remote transmission application is available that runs directly from his pc desktop: this allows him to access the seedbox directly without needing to launch a browser. More importantly though, it seems to have an in-built ‘home-made’ version of Peerblock in it (with the update showing that the list has about 289k IP blocklists on it)

Now comes an important question: to download a torrent to a seedbox from a tracker (say from thepiratebay- tpb from here on), he has to launch a web browser, surf tpb, find the torrent he wants, then right-click and copy the shortcut (the green downward facing arrow), then open a new window and access the seedbox/transmission interface, and paste this shortcut link into the transmission interface. Then he is able to download the torrent into the seedbox to fetch later. Are all companies like this, or just this particular one…?

To clarify: when looking for a torrent to download into your seedbox, are you able to search for these torrents using the seedbox interface? My unease lies in leaving my home IP address all over a ‘dirty’ tracker when doing a search, even though the actual downloading will present the seedbox IP address.

Thanks again- and share your knowledge all round (my questions are not meant to steer the thread in any direction…)

I use the TorrentFlux interface from Santrex, from what I know you can only access it via a Web browser, same goes for their ruTorrent interface. You're able to upload torrent files, nzbs, etc.. or you can enter the URL of a torrent file, and it will fetch it and download for you. There is a field where you can select popular trackers and then search, I've never used it but a friend of mine has and has found a lot of stuff this way :)

They say you can get a max of 12 MB/s. But does it really matter? You can't possibly download it that fast to your PC anyway, so why bother with
getting something with a dedicated 100 Mb/s connection, or even Gigabit? Sure it'll get to your seedbox faster, but you still can't pull it down any
faster to your PC.

Also, not all torrents are seeded that well, usually though with popular torrents, of around 500MB, I start it, wait a minute or so, refresh the page and
it's done. With huge torrents, they're usually not well seeded so the additional speed wouldn't really help because it wouldn't make a difference.

i have noticed torrentflux is able to download nzb's now as wel... now is there a service a vps or something that can download torrents and then upload them to a news group? so that we can download using a nzb client?

i know downstorm wanted to do something like that but it never got released. you can share the nzb location to your friends and the world and can download using local cap...................YES...............some of us are still with telkom cap!!!!!!!!!!!it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I have never had the need to use a seedbox because with the Uncapped Express account I have been using there is no shaping after hours and on weekends. But I did look into it recently when it seemed like they were doing away with these accounts.
Here is the problem I find. Storage space. Most places only offer up to 30GB storage space, with a few quite expensive exceptions. 30GB is way too small. I have plenty torrents over 30GB that would be impossible to download. I currently have 250GB of downloading torrents in my queue and have just bought a 1TB drive to replace it as 250GB is not enough. This is necessary because a lot of the large torrents are poorly seeded or have a poor seed to leech ratio so lining up quite a few is necessary to maximise bandwidth. So what say ye, how does one survive with 30GB storage?

I've also found that to be a bit of a problem Spark, but with Santrex as least the least space you get is 70GB, which has been enough for me most of the time :)

I do find it easier to get the big torrents from my PC though, since it's going to take a while anyway, just leave it downloading on your PC, and use the seedbox for smaller torrents.

70GB is definitely better. I see getaseedbox.com mentioned earlier can offer up to 250GB which is much better. I just find it strange with all the seedbox talk going on since uncapped became cheap that nobody really seems to be discussing how little 30GB storage is for a 4meg line. Two very common services here AeroVPS and Downstorm offer 50GB and 30GB maximum storage space each respectively. Really I feel it is too small, on a single weekend day I can download 30GB so I would have to be constantly micro managing the service to keep it working. So how much would you charge for decent sized storage of say 250GB then Mr.AeroVPS?

I dl from places were every one has at least a 100mbit connection ... even where there is only 2 seeds I get 6-8 MB/s

and ja SPeed matter for me the faster its on my seedbox then the faster I can start seeding and then the faster I can start to DL other stuff

Rtorrent + ru torrent is the best of all the online torrent GUI's REALLY !!!

They oversell aks 6-8 people use the same server thats wy its so slow .. DO me a favor and leave Santrex ... and go http://www.xirvik.com/ they are 100% better then santrix

On a side note, its refreshing that Aerovps has made several offers to us guys here following the thread:- 1st, 10% off subs; then an extra 100gig bandwidth; and now a trial account...

Indeed its a laudable gesture.

The speed doesn't bother me really, but I am having a look at xirvik. What would you recommend from them? The Semidedi Large looks reasonable to me. What does the "Slot per server" value mean?

Thanks for the link btw. I've looked around for other options, but so far haven't found anything I liked as much as Santrex.
