Selebi prosecutors 'must hurry up'

The heat has been turned up on Jackie Selebi's prosecutors.

Instead of granting the National Prosecuting Authority's request to postpone Selebi's corruption trial until next year, Johannesburg High Court Judge Meyer Joffe on Tuesday gave the State less than three weeks to resolve its evidence disputes with the national police commissioner, who is currently on special leave.

This postponement application, he said, was based on two arguments: that the State needed time to challenge Selebi's successful Johannesburg High Court bid to get evidence from the State and that the NPA's investigation was not yet complete because of a lack of co-operation from the police.

Its the same pre-trial bulls**t that Zuma pulled. Selebi has delayed his own trial by going to the High Court - how can judges allow evidence to be put on trial before the actual trial, rather than just declare it inadmissible when the time comes.

Furthermore, without the Scorpions, the NPA has to rely on the police who are not co-operating in the prosecution of their Chief of Police. This is unjust and unfair.

This is clearly the future we can expect when the police refuse to co-operate with the NPA and allow the case against ANC cadres to be dismissed!

How does the NPA operate? Do they normally charge people on suspicion and gather the evidence later?
I'm asking this because the same ploy was applied to the Zuma case in respect of search and seizures.
When the accused challenges the legality of their processes, critics are so quick to cry delaying tactics.

They gather enough evidence to form a case, and attempt to seal the deal with additional information. But it appears they are once again not following due process. I'm worried that the NPA doesn't even know the correct procedure in charging someone anymore!

not sure why they wasting time and tax payers money, let him go , we have let so many other criminals go in the last month - a rapist/crook and a fraudster.
Spend the money on the poor rather, im not too keen to see Selebe's ugly face in the paper every day, was bad enough seeing Zuma
