We're using a Unibody Macbook here, and while it's never had a problem connecting to the wireless network, as of yesterday it refused to work. I've gone through the usual diagnostics but nothing turns up. It sees the signal but just refuses to connect to it. The only clue I have is on the network preferences screen it gives me the above error message. Has anyone else dealt with this before?

I assume you are using DHCP to get the IP for the macbook? Any other machines on the same wireless AP using DHCP?

If nothing on the wireless has changed then i reckon its either a preference file or a keychain file problem.

Try create a new network profile, see if that works.
try create a new user, log in with that and see if that works.
Depending on the answers i can give a solution

It is using dhcp yes. The other imac is also using dhcp on the same network. And as of right now it's working no problem. Also should mention that the macbook wireless does work with our neighbour's wifi..... *cough*

The problem is definitely with ur mac then. Give the suggestions a try, most likely a pref file...
what ver os are u running?

Does it connect to the AP at all or is the problem just that its not getting an IP?

It's running the latest version of Leopard.

icyrus, it definitely connects to the AP, shows black bars on the wireless signal, but fails to connect. And all I can see to indicate what the problem might be is the self assigned ip failure.

If you know the range of IPs that the AP is using you could try assigning the macbook a static IP in that range and see if it gives you connectivity.

Also using another machine with wireless to connect and see if it gets assigned an IP will let you know for sure if the DHCP server is working or not. Try renewing the DHCP lease on the iMac.

I assume u have tried to assign an ip to this?
Have u done a software update recently?
Can u create a host - host wirlesss on the mac and connect another machine to it?

odd the other imac was working...unless it had static ip...

Actually the other imac was only working when the dsl cable was plugged in. When I unplugged it, this mac also wouldn't connect.
