Self funded personal loans

Excellent idea OP, you pretty much want to be your own bank, I also do this, all my spare cash goes into the bond, I take when necessities arise and pay it back.

Set up scheduled payments to pay yourself back...
 
The OP's actual issue is savings right? If you can afford to pay yourself in this way then why not just open a debit order linked savings account like at Allan Gray or similar and save there each month. 24 hours notice on funds and they'll grow the money.

Where do you buy things where you can really negotiate the price? Gumtree? A R40k TV or similar large purchase I'd want to be buying from somewhere that I think I can return it to if broken etc. Most shops will give 5%-10% discount - Do you get more? So then you have a tough piece of maths to work out if your savings are real after a years worth of cost of money lost, the item you buy loses value, etc.
