God I am but holding onto my last thread of sanity here...

5 weeks ago we ordered (my gf and I) a telkom line so we can get ADSL. We opted for self install... they said it would be 3, yes three weeks (21 days)

3 weeks went by and no line, so I called Telkom and they said that they were experiencing a backlog and it would be at least another three weeks.

Week four was followed by an SMS stating my line was due to be installed on the 22/7 (today).

This morning they called me to reschedule for late August... I FREAKED OUT!!!

20 minutes later there was a technician at my door... 40 minutes late I made my first call... to 10219 to enquire about my ADSL self install... they said that it had not been installed and I needed to go back to the telkom office I ordered from...

I did... only to get told that it will be another 3 weeks will my line can be upgraded to be ADSL compliant. why must it take 3 weeks, they need to schedule the technician to go out to the exchange?

why couldn't he do this today? cos it would have cost me an extra 490? but now it's costing you an extra trip? no, they have a technician at the exchange all day and everyday... so why can't he do it now? that will cost 490... but if I wait 3 weeks, then it will be free... okay... so then why does it take so long, what needs to be done..? they need to connect you line to an ADSL port. How long does that take? Less than 5 minutes... But I need to wait 3 weeks? Yes...

I ******* HATE TELKOM!

NEOTEL!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!!

no no really, if you complain daily it will get done faster ;) ;)

no... telkom are deaf dumb and stupid... I was complaining today and they said if I don't like the service I can get 3G from vodacom (which they mostly own)

bru, what area are you in? That might be whats counting against you (old exchange).

I waited nearly a year for telkom to "upgrade" my line. The problem wasn't the exchange, but my actual line was piggy backing on our neighbours (telkom taking short cuts) and the quality was poor. They only way I got them to fix it was by ordering a second line. They had no choice but to fix the lines cause it was barely working with 1, a second was impossible and they wanted the money. I promptly cancelled my other line once installed :P

Hopefully you won't be in a similair situation, but if they need to upgrade your exchange, you might have to wait around until there's enough orders to make it worthwhile for telkom.

I just called Telkom to complain about my line... they said that the order was opened, but never completed by the agent!!!! Now it has been completed... I have a reference number, but I need to wait for the technician based at the exchange (apparently there is one sitting there during office hours) to connect me to an ADSL port. This will be done after 14 days, he can't do it sooner, because apparrantly there is a lot of complicated things about connecting a line to a DSLAM, and also it is Telkom policy.

tip - never ever order adsl along with a new line...

if you order just a normal line - gonna take 2-3 weeks max.....when that is done - do the self-install - 2-4 days.

they 99.9% of the time screw up a combo order.

I did a combo order on 4 July. On Tues this week they phoned and said a techie would come and install the line on Wed. Well it's Fri today, so quess what, no techie yet. I phone 10219. Now the date is 6 August. Apparently the first date is unconfirmed. :(
I gave her a piece of my mind and hopefully I will have a line early next week.

They said that??!!! *chokes laughing....:D

well it's week six and still now adsl... apparantly... self installs don't get the same priority as the ones that telkom installs...

When I got home last night I noticed the light on the modem was on... I logged onto the modem and saw I had 512K... tried connecting to the net... no luck... so I restarted the modem and it was 1024K... ? I ordered 384K? Tried to connect... no luck...

I called a friend who told me that I need to activate it using a telkom guest account... nobody at telkom told me this... so he gave me the details... I logged on went to telkom.co.za fiddled for ages until I found the bloody link... and activated...

They said it takes 30 minutes... so I went to bed...

this evening I came in... I was connected at 384K.... cool... try connect... now I am at 0K... 2 hours later (after 1 hr 30 on hold with 0800DSLDSL) I am running again, but apparantly, I have a faulty line and will have to wait for a techie to come out and fix it...

shortly after putting the phone down with telkom... I had my connection back... how long will it last?
