I bought a new prepaid sim 3 days ago, and tried to RICA it using the MTN app.

Within a few minutes I got a confirmation E-mail stating:

Y'ello
Thanks for using Self-RICA and welcome to SA's best network*.
Your SIM card is now active .Go on ,make that first call.

36 hours later and the SIM is still not active. USSD codes, data, and SMS's don't work. I can dial voicemail but it says "The subscriber is RICA barred please visit your local MTN branch to RICA" bla bla

I contacted their support on Facebook who advised that RICA via the APP is not working and that they can't confirm for me when it will be working again..

Either the app RICA functionality is in fact broken (and has been for several days and counting), or the consultant is talking nonsense and something else is to blame for the RICA "barring"

Any advice what I can do, besides go to a mall to get it done at an MTN store?

Thanx

:ROFL: Over a year down the line and struggling with the same thing, seems like they don't really know what is what.

Also tried to load everything via the app, except for me I just get an error message the whole time at the end of the process.

Why not just have it RICA'd in-store at the time of purchase?

Got the deal online so they deliver you the sim card and give you instruction to RICA through the app.
Ended up going into one of the MTN stores anyway.

Seems like MTN has a really stupid RICA way. Even for SIM swaps you have to RICA when buying a SIM for SIM swap, confusing.

I think every provider does that. Every new sim card has to be rica'd by law, doesn't matter if it's a sim swap.
