I'm just confused by the wording "didn't want to afford"... What does that mean? Didn't want to buy?

Doesn't want to pay for it anymore... I know, it's a stupid way of saying it.

Since its not that much ask your bank for a overdraft or take a personal loan for the shortfall. Just make sure you are in a position to pay it of quickly as the interest is usually very high. You can also pay most of your salary into the personal loan and then live of your credit card where the interest is hopefully cheaper.
