Selling a vehicle without original registration docs.

Hi! Not sure if Im doing this first post right. My father (80) is selling a 1973 Datsun bakkie. He has the renewed license doc, but not the original one from 1976, when he bought the bakkie. I cant see him stand for hours at traffic department to try and obtain a duplicate. Is there any other way?!

Unfortunately not...

Though chose the time and such correctly and it shouldn't be hours long, maybe 45 minutes.

He can write a proxy letter and you can stand for hours at the traffic department to obtain the duplicate?

Yes, the form has a proxy section. Complete that and have him as responsible person sign it. Then you can do the queueing for him

You'll also need an affidavit stating the reason for the loss of the original registration documents. This has to be done by your father if I'm not mistaken.

In the past year I had to get duplicate reg docs for a family member. No separate affidavit was required, only the official form. And the prescribed fee.

You must apply for a duplicate registration/deregistration certificate in person. And you must be the titleholder of the vehicle.

Ok , easy way your father will not stand for hours, most traffic departments have a special desk for elderly / disabled, just enquire about it.

You Say he has the new one...but not the old one? What does that even mean?

Or are you mixing up the license documents with registration documents?

And make copies of your ID and his to take along with you plus your ID and his, plus proof of residential address for your father.

Plus a written/typed letter of authorisation just to be safe
