Johannesburg - World 800 metres champion Caster Semenya will compete in South Africa's domestic athletics season as she waits to hear her fate from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Seme also said Semenya would compete on the European circuit this season after gender tests, followed by an international media probe, had prevented her from competing after winning the world title in a national record 1:55.45 in Berlin last August.

"Last year there were obviously problems and she was not able to compete in those big events," Seme said.

"She received many invites after winning the world title, and even before that, but because of what happened she chose not to take part. But this year is different and she is planning to compete in some of those events."

She should just run in both races.

I want to see the faces when she beats the men.

I thought the IAAF said she could compete as a woman if she had her balls cut off?

I don't believe that the IAAF would permit it to compete against either.

So I wonder why she is being allowed to compete locally. I do not think it's fair against the other athletes either.

What they should do is sort the issue out so everybody knows where they stand.

I agree that it's not fair to our athletes, and I suspect politics and face saving has something to do with the announcement that it'll compete locally.

The gender tests done in SA ahead of the German event obviously confirmed the suspicions that it's not all female, because if it the local report was decisive that it was all female, it would have been forwarded to the IAAF who'd requested it and made it clear that they needed it before international competition.

Caster Semenya's coach says the 800-metre world champion is free to compete internationally despite an ongoing gender test investigation.

Michael Seme said on Wednesday that he didn't have details but learned from Semenya's lawyers that she can compete. Her lawyer, Greg Nott, was not immediately available to comment.

"She's going to run in international events," Seme said, adding that she would start at local events as a training exercise.

Semenya has never been officially suspended by the International Association of Athletics Federations, pending results of the gender tests.

.
Why is this taking such a long time... The test can not take that long.

IT should not be allowed to compete. End of story.

Sorry for Caster, but that's just the way it should be.

International or not, letting Caster compete even locally is a farce and as a competitor I would be thoroughly agitated and insulted if it were me.

...and as for that Idiot Ray Mali on the radio this morning, crikey, what a joke!

He basically uttered a whole lot of BS followed by a statement along the lines of "We are just waiting for the IAAF to clear her."

African entitlement again! ASSUMING that "her" status will be given the go-ahead by the IAAF.

Agreed. I wonder how well Semenya would compete if she didn't have those balls.

Semenya can't compete - ASA

Johannesburg - South African runner Caster Semenya will not be allowed to compete until a resolution has been reached in her gender case, the country's athletics association said on Thursday.

Semenya underwent gender verification tests after she won the women's 800m at the Berlin world championships last August, following a rapid improvement in her performances.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has yet to reveal the results of the tests.

Athletics South Africa (ASA) administrator Ray Mali said the 19-year-old athlete would be allowed to race only once the IAAF had cleared her.

"We can only allow her to participate in events once we get clarity from the IAAF, not at this stage," Mali told Reuters.

Local media on Thursday quoted Semenya's coach Michael Seme as saying she was preparing to participate in a local series event beginning on February 19.

Mali said he would push for a decision from the IAAF but until then Semenya would be restricted to training with other athletes.

Seems the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

And - my understanding is that the IAAF will never reveal the results because they are private and confidential.

So where to...

Poor kid. She's really being managed badly. Maybe it's a long term plan to be able to sue people for misleading her etc etc.
