Hi all

Client of mine has just switched from Telkom DSL to RSAWeb fiber.

and is having issues sending emails. The fault obviously lies with the SMTP settings, as Telkom block emails being sent from other ISPs to their SMTP server.

What are settings for RSAWeb that would allow her to send emails over their fiber.

Thanks

Tried that, but didn't want to work. Will try again.

You need to cycle between settings and find something that works. The last Telkom client I got going had Outlook 2010 as the mail client. I used smtp.saix.co.za utilising port 587. No Authentication.

You'll want to use RSAweb's SMTP server for sending mail.

The other possible alternative is to use SMTP authentication for logging into telkom's SMTP servers.

I work a lot with clients who have Telkomsa inboxes. Usually "smtp.telkomsa.net" and port 25 is enough to get it working. Sometimes it doesn't, and using port 587 fixes that because some ISPs will block use of port 25.

The other option, which sometimes works, is to enable the setting to log on to the incoming mail server before sending email.

Alternatively, tell them the truth: Telkom does not deserve to be managing anyone's email and the best you can - and should - do is to have all email forwarded to another address and use something that actually works, like Outlook.com. You can even set up an alias for it.

Better yet, if they pay for Office 365, they can have all future mail saved online with a maximum 50GB allowed for the inbox.

Just in case anyone needs to know, ('cos I just did today and a google search at a client threw up this thread as the 2nd search result):

smtp server: mail.rsaweb.co.za
port: 587
Outgoing mail authentication enabled with these:
username: [email protected]
password: Rsaweb123!
no SSL

Doesn't this result in mails being marked as spam? telkomsa.net has a softfail on the SPF records....

Well, a week after I posted this solution, it stopped working because, according to RSAWeb: "We are no longer facilitating Telkomsa mail sending".

I suppose the argument from any ISP would be why must they provide service for an email solution they are not responsible for or generate any income from, after all the client is paying the email provider for the email service and not the ISP.

The real solution here is to stop using Telkom and move to a proper email soluton, like gmail.com outlook.com etc
