Minimum Requirements
Must have:
- A tertiary Engineering or Computer Science degree is preferred.
- A high degree of interest and experience in Linux is desired.
- Shell scripting ability for system administration.
- Linux system administration (RedHat/Centos, Apache, MySQL, Bash, Python), or Telecommunications technologies (SS7, SIGTRAN, MTP, SCCP, TCAP, MAP, CAP, other ITU-T/3GPP protocols).
- Knowledge of networking protocols and technology (TCP/IP, SOAP, HTTP, XML, RADIUS, Diameter, SCTP)
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
Nice to have:
- Experience in the support and management of high availability software and systems.
- Understanding of C/C++ development.
Job Specification
The principal function is to apply specialist knowledge of Linux system administration to manage close to 50 Linux servers and VMs mostly in South Africa, but elsewhere in Africa and South America.
This involves the following tasks, among others:
- OS, network, and application configuration of new systems.
- Maintaining and contributing to system standards.
- Improve the automation of tasks where possible.
- Managing system security.
- Apply OS and application patches where required.
- Capacity and performance management.
- Research and recommend innovative approaches to improving efficiency.
- Provide system and application support.
