Senior Voice Engineer:

A reputable company based in Johannesburg is looking for a Senior Voice Engineer for the IP and Voice Department who will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the Core VoIP network.

Job Description:

The IP and Voice Department is looking for an individual who will be responsible for;

• Responsible for setting up and maintaining the Core VoIP network
• Ensure performance monitoring and optimization within the VoIP network
• Accountable for VoIP network availability and security (network security and fraud)
• Assist in maintaining core infrastructure hosted at the respective Datacentres
• Design and Implementation of VoIP systems
• Comprehensive skills in IP Addressing, subnetting
• Linux administration (Package installation, general scripting, backups, start-up scripts, file system manipulation)
• Switching, VLANs
• Database Queries (MYSQL & Oracle)
• Programming (good to have) Bash, Perl etc.
• Interface between Core and NOC on all 3rd level VoIP related queries
• Testing and R& D on new technologies and equipment ensuring the best suited systems and equipment are utilized within the business
• Manage system integration to the core VoIP platforms (Database and API) for e.g. - Integration with the Number portability company for direct routing purposes
• Project manage tasks and rollouts via Teamwork
• Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers when escalating faults or implementing new services
• Team Leader

Minimum Requirements:

The individual should portray the following qualities;

• Good communication skills
• Flexibility to work outside normal office hours

The individual will possess the following skills and experience;

• Voice routing, rating and billing
• Virtual PBX (IP Centrix)
• Number Portability
• Asterisk
• Wireshark tracing and debugging
• SNMP & Monitoring
• Protocols & Standards – SIP, DHCP, Codecs, ISDN, PRI, Analogue, Apache, MySQL, Ftp, Nat, Pat, VPN(IPSEC), High availability, HSRP, VRRP, DNS, DHCP and AAA
• Working with Portaone, Sonus/Acme SBC’s, Patton voice Gateways, SS7 and Cisco an advantage

The individual will possess the following minimum educational requirements;

• 5 years + experience in working with VoIP (SIP Protocol)
• 2 years + experience in working with Session Boarder Controllers
• 5 years + experience in Unix/Linux based service environments
• Networking skills, basic routing and switching

I think you should make it clear that it's over and above the quoted salary.

Most would assume the values quoted as cost to company and the retirement and medical aid and subtracted from that.

Otherwise good on you for providing a salary bracket. If I was in the VOIP space this is what would convince me to actually apply instead of jump to the next ad.
