Hi, im looking into buying a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones, and was wondering if anyone knows where's the best place and good price to get them, im from Cape Town....

Hey thx Postman, will check it out, have a few other options as well, mom lives in uk and will be down in March, just waiting price from her as well.
One other question ive had a pair of AR-T2 since 2006, and have to say they done their job, but now they kinda coming to end, quality wise. What i want to know these will be good for all round stuff, pc gaming listening music and movies but mostly music ?

I normally get Sennheiser headphones cheapest from Tafelberg Furnishers, but you can also try Dion Wired.

They're about R2500 locally, so if you take the offer mentioned earlier and include shipping and import taxes you won't really save much.

Brilliant headphones for the price though. Yes they are great for all round music listening but better for some genres than others. They are awesome for classical, vocals, jazz etc but less so for metal or anything dependent on heavy bass like dubstep, hardcore or whatever the kids listen to these days. Not that they're bad, just less good in those genres. If you're into metal etc the AKG K701's seem to be a better choice from what I've read, but they are insanely expensive locally even though internationally they're comparable to the Sennies.

Whichever one you end up going with, I hope you have something decent to drive them with or it will be a waste.

Very good for all round stuff, especially gaming. In terms of how their sound is coloured, they are quite bright, so some emphasis on higher frequencies/treble.

I had the 595's which are very similar, they were excellent. Perhaps one of the best aspect is that they are light as a feather and you can wear them without fatigue for 10 hours or more. You will forget they were there.

One other thing I do recommend is pairing them with a sound card. On a budget, you're looking at the Asus Xonar DG at around R475.

Yes, I own a pair.

From your last post though I'd say you'd probably enjoy a closed, bass-head type headphone more, something by Beyerdynamic, maybe the DT 880 I think is the model? Or even a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro.

I would say the opposite. :)

Psytrance is not rap.

i have the asus phobeus gaming card, which comes with a 500ohms headphone amp...

sorry i meant 600ohms

yea true but have to sacrifice a bit for my gaming and movie needs too, why im looking for all round purpose

Well then my bad, if you're not after boosted bass but want a very neutral sound without going into R5000+ territory, by all means get the HD 598..It's awesome for movies as well, especially with Dolby Headphone turned on on your sound card or AV receiver.

mmmh, u guys got me thinking a bit now, maby i need to get one pair for my music and another for my gaming and movie needs, basically looking for something that is good allround

sorry another question, will these sound good with my htc one x ?

Better than the stuff that comes with it- Yes. As good as from a nice sound card-no. They're designed to be easy to drive but are still 50 Ohm cans and you need an amplifier to make them sound "fuller" (hard to explain really, my audiophile vocab isn't that great)

Edit: About your previous post, these are some of the best "all-round" type headphones you can get, definitely at the price. If you only have one pair, these would be a fine choice.
