I'm looking at buying me a set of Sennheiser headphones, will be using them mostly for gaming, watching movies, and some music. I will get a clip on mic. I just do not know which of the 2 to get. I mostly play FPS games.

I see at takealot the HD429's are on special, just want to know if they are really that much better then the HD202's.

HD202's are very good but the wires are very thin and I broke em :(

Pretty sure the 429's are better though (must be...bigger number)

The 429s are actually criticized for their flimsy wires. I actually considered the 429s to replace my 202s but decided against it due to the low quality cord.

If I didn't have the 202s, I'd take the 429s because the price on Takealot is good enough to ignore the cord issue entirely!

Yes the only reason I'm considering the HD429's is because of the price at the moment. I also read about the flimsy wire, but it seems that all the models in that price range has issues with the wire being flimsy. But sound quality wise, I hope that the 429's re much better then the 202's

And that is why I got me some Sony's. The sound is decent and the wire is thick and unbreakable during normal use (backpacks, drawers).

I was also considering the HD429 up until I tested these bad boys (kingston hyperx cloud headset ) for plus minus same price . Read reviews and you will see that most sites indicate cannot get better value for money. I got mine this afternoon and after a three hour session very happy!

I have the HD202's at home and the HD280's at work. The 280's are far superior to the 202's. Much richer but flat sound (if that makes sense), and deeper bass too. That's not to say the 202's aren't bad.

No doubt the 429 would be a better buy, but for your use the 202 should be perfect.

I'm very happy with my 429's - bass is accurate i.e. not a boom-box.

As a general rule of thumb, if both headphones are made by the same company, the one costing 6 times the price will be better. Much better. Not really rocket science.

The 202's are the very lowest entry-level model Sennheiser makes. They are better than other stuff in the price range (R200-300), but not really comfortable at all and there is no comparison to the more serious models.

The 429's I can't comment on as I have never tried them but I can guarantee you they will be much better.

Chalk and cheese, we're talking about a 70 year old German company manufacturing solely audio products, versus a Taiwanese PC peripherals manufacturer, in the business for 23 years, but only entering the audio scene about 2 years ago.

The CM Storms are being reviewed by PC fundis, not audiophiles.

On what hardware will you be using them?

I have a pair of 201's, 202's and 429's...the cables are all annoying while the sound reproduction does noticeably go up as you move up the range. The 202's improved on the bass response from the 201's a bit while still producing the typical Sennheiser experience. The 429's are well-worth the price gap...the balance out the box is great whereas I fiddled with EQ settings on my mp3 player to get the 202's to sound like I wanted (they produced more bass than I wanted or was used to).

I would take the 429's personally.
