Sennheiser HD485 replacements

So my faithful 485's have lost their cushioning and all my searching for replacements pads have hit dead ends.
I am looking at buying a new pair and i am struggling to find anything comparable for a good price.

I was thinking the 449's but not so sure yet. My budget is around R1k but anything cheaper will be a huge bonus :p.
Any recommendations welcome, but please don't recommend Skullcandy.
(Also preferably 32ohm. No expensive amps getting used here)
 
With that kind of budget, you're probably limited to getting an HD 485 again.

Or, look around on second-hand sites for something a little more next-level maybe, such as this Gumtree ad, where someone is selling an HD555 for R600. Excellent deal in my opinion, if it's still in good condition. You will be blown away by the sound quality if you've never heard anything in this range before. New ones go for about R1500-1600

Ah, the 485, aka "the headcrusher". I took mine back and got a pair of 515. Try HFX systems for the pads. They might even have a pair of 515 or 518 for under a grand. I don't know if they'll ship to nowhere.

I wish i could get another set of 485's again. But i cannot find them anywhere.

I love my 485 :D. They just DESTROY my ears now since the cushions are non existent. I will give HFX a go. :)

If you're in Pretoria or nearby, Nu World in Menlyn has them, as do some of the Foto Discount World branches. Same for Orange Music in Hatfield. They're everywhere!

The only thing that bothers me about them is they are a bit of old tech compared to the 449's
 
HD485 should be serviceable with Sennheiser South Africa?

Trying to trade my HD595's for my old man's HD555's+cash (wanna keep the HD595's in the family :p). So if that goes through I'll let you know. Mint HD555's worn by a cleanliness freak. :D
 
You could try the Samson SR850 for decent 32 Ohm headphones, though these are monitor-style headphones, and you might find the treble too harsh, depending on your tastes.

Unfortunately, the best way to pick headphones is to listen to them. If you can find another pair of 485s, and you like the sound, then go for it.

Tried to get hold of Sennheiser SA multiple times and had no luck in actually speaking to someone. They are lucky i like their products so much otherwise i would have jumped ship long ago.

Really? I just phoned them right now and they picked up after one ring!

I take it you didn't try picking up the phone. :p
