Sennheiser headsets

The cheaper mic's allow more backround noise, the good quality ones barely transmit unless they right by your mouth.

That is the difference. I can lift up my up and talk and nobody on TS can hear me when i had the g330's background noise was an issue.

xonar xense the mic is simply incredible for backround noise.

Then a closed design with decent mic suits you, if you game in a noisy environment.

Thankfully mine's quiet. :D

What does a closed design and mic backround noise have to do with anything, whether it's closed or not if there is backround noise it will transmit and become annoying during clan matches and general online play for people in your TS.

Anyways whatever i don't think we are on the same page, you are talking about closed designs and i am talking about quality mics so we won't be able to communicate when we are on different wave lengths ahah.

A noisy environment could be bothersome to you, the gamer, if you hear it all. Closed design shuts it out. That's all.

I disagree. Not for any reason in particular, but rather because I wish to not agree with this sentiment.

Semi hijack -

Any reason not to buy a refurbished headset? Its refurbished directly by Sennheiser so should be good, and the PC 360 at R1350 ($160) is very tempting :D And iirc Sennheiser has international warranty correct, so I'll be good when I'm back home?

I'll just have to get watercooling stuff another time :(

I don't see why there should be any reason not to. If they could detail what's been replaced, that would be a benefit. Besides the valour cups, obviously.

My itch hasnt been scratched yet, but just in case anyone is interested I came acroos this mike as an option that is being used by some flight sim chaps overseas with good results.
So if you have Sennies have a look.

Pot, you can loose the g330's round your neck :D

Finally got my HD650's.

Have them plugged into a Xonar Essence STX.
I'm rather speechless. It's quite sublime to say the least. I almost feel cheated that I never did this before.
Super stoked! :D

Hi everyone,

So my current headset finally died last night - RIP, fortunately this thread was exactly what I was looking for. :)
After reading all the responses here I'm thinking of a Xonar Essence STX + PC 350 setup, primarily for gaming, although I did see the Sennheiser PC 363D headphones last night which I assume are similar in quality to the PC 350, except the 363D has 7.1 surround sound while the 350 is stereo. That seems to be a pretty large advantage, especially if I'm going to be using them mostly for gaming.

You guys seem like experts on the subject, what are your thoughts? :D

Both are bad ideas.

1. Both the headphones are stereo, they have 2 drivers each. Which is a good thing, those "true" 7.1 gaming headsets with several tiny drivers crammed into each earcup sound awful. These both use Dolby Headphone to simulate the other channels, but in slightly different ways. With the PC350 it would be handled by the Xonar Essence, while the 363D has its own electronics built in.

2. The PC350 is a pretty decent headphone, but it will be wasted on the Essence card. If you spend that much on a sound card, you're better off getting a properly good headphone. The PC350 is essentially an HD380 with a microphone. A lot better than the "gaming" crap being sold, but the HD5xx and HD6xx series are on a completely different level. Get at least an HD558. It's not as good as an HD650 but it's less than half the price. Or if you must have a mic, get the PC360. It's an HD555 with a microphone.

3. The PC363D would be even more of a waste. As I said before it has the DAC and other circuitry (basically a soundcard) built in already, similarly to those headsets made by the gaming companies. Actually it seems to be an adapter. Thus by using it you would be bypassing the Essence completely and there would be no point buying it. Remove the USB adapter and it's exactly the same as a PC360. These headphones would be a good choice if you want to use them on PCs without sound cards.

It seems the PC360 is what you want, with a Xonar Essence.

Thanks so much for the input TJ99, I will take your advice and go with the Xonar Essence + PC360. The HD650 would have been awesome, but it's above the budget at the moment. Might upgrade later on though. :)

** ressurects thread **

Been thinking about making my own headset + mic using a Sennheiser and of course attaching an excellent mic to it.

I'm however sure that there was such a thread around here...
