Sentech and vista

Sure, if you use the ethernat cable. USB cable will probably need a driver

If you are not yet a customer of Sentech, DO NOT SIGN UP. If you are considering upgrading to Windows Vista and are already a customer, then proceed provided that you have an ethernet cable.

I will repeat - if you aren't currently a Sentech customer, DO NOT SIGN UP. You will be wasting your money. See the rest of this sub-forum.

To late donava im all ready signed up and i know what you mean.

Hi guys, i've just installed Vista on dual boot. Please help iro of this ethernet cable connection, do I just purchase the Sentech ethernet cable from Nowire and connect direct from modem to ethernet port on pc or do I have to purchase the router as well (which according to Nowire is about R 1100).

I really appreciate your assistance :)

cryptic1, you can do either, although the router option will probably be less problematic - whilst providing you with more options. Any broadband router that can do PPPoE will suffice and if you shop around you can get a differently branded router for less than half of what NoWire is charging! (They are retailers)

lol, the "Sentech" Ethernet cable? Did they invent a whole new type of cable just for themselves :p

I thikn you could use any normal cheap cable btw.. You can go directly to the PC surely, if you have no use for a router (ie only one PC), then its not really worth the money.

:) :) :) Thank you guys for the response. Ekhaatvensters please can u advise me on the cable, can I purchase from any dealer? The cable would have to be specific right? 'cos it would have to come direct from modem to pc, it would have to be like the currect usb connection, yes?

Please help, i'm really new at this.

No any Ethernet cable is fine. You can just go to any PC shop and ask for a Ethernet cable..

Well, I dont actually have a Sentech modem, but I'm sure the guys here will confirm that.

But yes, it will work exactly the same way as a USB cable, it will just go into the Ethernet port instead.

EHV, you're wrong. MyWi has a proprietary cable

Regrettably that's correct, 'cos there's no ethernet slot - only available is the printer like fitting from which the cable connects & usb fitting which connects to the pc. :( So if there's any other way to sort this pitfall please suggest - thanks once again guys.:)

Sentech and Vista? Personally i dont think MyWireless will last till the Vista launch date

Naah. That cable from Sentech is proprietary. That blob at the end has a chip inside.
You have to use their ethernet cable :(

Sentech!!!

Have the same problem, new laptop, Vista Premium, Sentech modem, no connection, according to Sentech drivers is not even in the pipeline, rather use a ethernet cable but remeber there will be no support, are we actually paying them for a no show service? Then I want to buy a cable... no stock in Cape Town

Wow, they actually made it that difficult for people buy making their own cable. Thats just stupid.. how about putting whatever chip they need onto the inside of the modem.
