I was out of SA for a couple of months... I'd like to know what is the general feeling regarding sentech's service and products nowadays? Did they improve their service as they state on their website?

I'm reconsidering my options again, and would like some input of which connection is best for my needs.
1) I need to have a public IP, so that i can connect to my PC from overseas
2) I do a little bit of surfing, and some FTP transfers for my website (http://www.dieinter.net) - And int. bandwidth should always be there when i need it
3) I like DC++ local hubs and network, and want to carry on using these to the extend i am now - around 30-50Gb per month (all local bandwidth)
4) Obviously i want the cheapest option available. - Is it back to Telkom? or iBurst, or anyone else that i missed?

Am i asking too much???!? :(

Thanks!!!

Go back to Telkom, that way I keep the bandwidth I am enjoying lately.

No but seriously, i would go for Telkom, at least you have more choices in the ISP portion of your ADSL.

definitely asking to much, maybe you should go abroad for a bit longer still :)

Very little has been done in terms of additional coverage (I believe Nelspruit is a new tower ....). They HAVE improved their bandwidth manager so kudos to them on that one.... Other than that not much has changed.

That is currently still the case with Sentech.

While you may not always have the full package capacity available you should get fair service on the downlink portion ... Uplinks didn't look great last time I checked.

On this one you'll more than likely run foul of their "average" usage check .. if you're one of their BIG users they may throttle you ...

iBurst is NO GO at the moment ... but, have a read on the iBurst forum and decide for yourself.

Telkom is a contender as long as you manage your accounts so that you still have international capacity available when you need it (it NOT capped)...

Hope this helps a bit

Jacauc, I agree with RegardTV. Indeed coverage hasn't changed much on the MyWi network except (2) more towers in Nelspruit. We are holding thumbs that this will start to change in around October.

Speeds on MyWi are much better than this time last year - most users get pretty much what they expect as far as local bandwidth is concerned - international could improve a bit more but is sufficient for most users.

I was doing an upload of a 21MB file to an FTP site on a Home128 account the other day (which ought to give 64k upstream) and managed a consistent 67kbps. So not too bad there. Once again, the speeds are pretty much what one would expect.

On MyWi, the soft caps are 10, 20 and 40 GB respectively. Whilst it appears that Sentech are not being too strict about this right now, this situation will change and so users who exceed this will be contacted. So the 50GB you are talking about would probably bring you onto the radar.

Right now, it would seem to be a choice between Telkom and MyWireless.
