I got a call from a person today doing a whole questionaire thing for Sentech. I gave him a piece of my mind - it seemed he wrote down everything I said. Not that I think it will really make any difference.

On a scale of 1 to 4 they scored a 1 most of the times. Two questions that stood out was would I be interested in a capped service at a lower cost, and also one about buying the MyWi service from Mweb.

I wonder what it all means?

Speed seems much better lately.

Interesting.

Don't tell me Mweb wants a finger in the Sentech pie now.

You're already paying for a capped service. As has happened too often in the past, if you go over 10GB they bitch and moan at you.

I wish they would phone me :-

Sentech: "Good Morning Sir, I'm phoning from Sentech and I wonder if I could have a moment of your time ?"
Me: "No, F@ck off"

ahhh, the witty eloquence of my reply would really floor them and make them think twice about messing with my razor sharp wit again !

I'm guessing it's not a Sentech person that's doing the calling, but a 3rd party company contracted to do the survey. It probabably means that there are some churning at Sentech top management w.r.t the current state of affairs, and we may expect some changes. Knowing Sentech the changes may or may not be in a positive direction.

if they want an opinion, they could start by reading this forum. At lease ppl here have first hand experience with sentech. Personally i think that a lower priced capped service is a regression, but if they think it's a good idea, let them go ahead.

And if they will be reading this, then they can this into account too: if they start offerering capped services at a lower prices, then i want my higher paid service to be TRULY uncapped (none of the AUP nonsense).

I had the phone call 2 days ago. They never mentioned mweb specificially, but ISPs in general. So I told them, now why would I want to buy from an ISP when I have the connection already.

Typical sentech... half the questions are for people who arent customers yet...

they might be onto something by wanting to partner with a wellknown ISP though. I never understood why if i wanted to get hooked up, i couldn't speak to sentech but had to go through one of their resellers. Personally i don't like to deal with resellers, b/c
1. they just take their cut and i don't see what value they add
2. i can't shake the feeling that a lot of them are dodgy buggers

Strangely enough iBurst applies the same technique (must be cheaper for them to do it that way)

But partnering with MWeb would lift sentech out of obscurity and give it credibility. Besides, Mweb (assuming that's the one) would not be putting its name to it if the service wasn't up to standard, so sentech might actually be stimulated to deliver.

I did the market research. I put in alot of valid points.
I mentioned a Sentech Rep on the forum. The reply was " Actually, we've had that request from a number of people."

I said the service and speed is good, but they need to do more work on the support dept. Get an inhouse one maybe. Even if they dump the market research in the bin, It doesn't matter. I said my piece and gave my opinion.

Funny, I don't see how telling them to **** off, is going to make a difference. It's like not voting. People complain so much, but when they get a chance to voice their opinion...... <splat>

About resellers, with iBurst you are likely to be better off going through a reseller - you have to find a reputable one first though, reason being that resellers are likely to provide [better?] customer service & technical support than going through WBS direct - resellers of iBurst have to maintain customers with good service, whereas WBS doesn't seem to care either way...:(

Also, Noone had an idea which he posted in the iBurst forum a while back, about WBS providing iBurst as the method for connecting - something like that, but WBS not being your ISP - you go through a 3rd party that is your ISP and/or reseller...Noone please dig that post up & link to it :).

I think Sentech are possibly indicating that they might do something like this on a big scale by partnering with the likes of MWEB...

Im currently subscribed through NoWire. The only problem I have with this is that on a few of my queries, they had to wait for sentech to get back to them.

Using a larger ISP would result in the same sort problem unless sentech themselves get jacked up

a large ISP could force sentech to shape up, b/c sentech would only be a junior partner and they would need the ISP more than the other way around.

But it sounds nevertheless like a win-win situation to me...

very...

like i said, it can only be an improvement. I for one don't want sentech to go out of business, b/c they are an alternative to telkom.

But they definitely need to shape up...

Benefits - Mweb (My Wireless)

I particularly like the following:

http://new.mwebbusiness.co.za/wireless_benefits.asp

-> A 24-hour always-on connection (really?)
-> Fixed monthly costs - regardless of bandwidth used (mn... wait and see)
-> No restriction on bandwidth usage (don't they use Telkom?)
-> Zero downtime caused by cable theft (unscheduled maintenance anyone)..

Just my 2c... Hope Mweb know what they are getting into....

how about our own bit of market research:

how's this for a poll idea:

if you could get MyWirelss 512K, at a pricerange from 499-699, and a cap of 40 Gig. would you

1. signup now b/c i don't have internet yet.
2. switch from your current provider to Sentech
3. not care.

(wording open to adjustment)

I bet you that within 6 months sentech would be market leader...

Actually the Mywireless stuff on the Mweb site have been there for a very long time. At least a year. So its not really a new idea. maybe only now are they thinking of doing it.

Well I got the call as well. I'm pessimistic about Sentech. Their service has improved but their products (packages) still suck ass. I still have worse than dialup speeds and Sentech still maintain that 21k is acceptable contention. Ridiculous. Thinking that Sentech will improve is like thinking that the Zimbabwean government will fix their country.

The change needs to happen at the top. So what if their call centre is jacked up now, everything else still sucks.

It is good to see them doing marketing research, but after all this time of people complaining, do they really need to do a survey? It's a bit late and it will tell them what we all already know: their bandwidth doesn't deliver what people expect, their contracts are archaic and their prices are a little too high.
