Sentech Modem/Trendnet Problem

Hi,

I had my network running through a Trendnet wireless router through my Sentech modem like a dream. I then had to replace the modem and thats where my problems started. I can now connect one pc through the USB port to the Sentech device and it will work.

When I connect it back to the router, no matter what I try, I cannot connect to the Internet. On the display of the router, there are a series of lights that have a description above them - except one that I never saw flash before, and doesn't have the description above it.

I can ping the other machines and router from the machines connected to the network.

The suppliers in America cannot tell me what the purpose of the light is, and even the hard reset that they suggested, does not make it go away.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm curious as to what this thing even is- you got a model number? I ask 'cos from the way you describe it, you seem to be connecting to a router box over USB (instead of the modem's Ethernet cable) - and that just makes NO sense to me ..which suggests to me I'm getting something horribly wrong, so some clarity would help a lot round about now!

bdt, you shouldn't read these things so late at night. Check again :

Ok having just been throught the pain of getting a Sucktech modem working thorugh a standard mecer router. Here is my advice.

1) Get MySignal.
2) Reset the modem using the option in my signal. (alternatively do a hard reset of the modem)
[UPDATE] It seems a hard reset is necessary. Unclip the back of the modem, Push the end of a paperclip into the hole marked reset and turn the modem on at the same time
3) Renter the name and password in my signal.

- The name and password has to be stored on the Sucktech modem for the modem to work over ppoe. My experience is that this can become corrupted.
- You can only store the name and password on the modem when it is connected over usb

4)Turn off the modem
5) Change the cable from usb to modem-ethernet
6) Turn on the modem
the light on the ethernet cable should now glow green to indicate the modem understands the cable has changed
7) plug the modem-ethernet cable into the dedicated port on the router
8) Setup the router via its web interface initially keeping all settings open
later on you can lock the router down, turn on ecryption etc once you have the basic configuration working

Heh, while you make a valid point, the way it's written, it doesn't come across clearly that he's connecting the modem to router via Ethernet ..which left the message apparently open to interpretation, which, at that time of night (on WAY too little sleep anyway!) threw me somewhat.

That said, embittered2's post outlines the steps perfectly -hell, 's the kinda input that should be posted to a FAQ somewhere, so we don't have to keep telling ppl this stuff..!
