I am looking for someone on this forum that can give me a straight answer, please.

I am interested in the Sentech Service, spesifically the MyWireless 128, but all the bad press in this forum have now made me wonder if it is worth the effort.

I stay in a flat in Goodwood. As a matter of fact, the Sentech Base Station for Goodwood is on the roof of my flat! Litterally a few meters above my head. I should therefore get great download speeds.

What worries me the most is the slow download speeds reported by some users. Yes, I do realize that the system is neither un-interruped nor error free. Airwaves are unfortunately affected by atmospheric phenomenon and computers crash and go down for no apparent reason what so ever. I am willing to accept that as long as I can get at least a 90% uptime.

I would like from someone in the Goodwood Area if possible. What are the connection speeds and uptime like?

Regards,

Hello Nico,

Actually with the tower being in the position above you - you may not get signal ;-)

Reasons
1) According to the helpdesk the signal may be too strong (grin - could not resist)
2) ProASM or Nic Roets may be able to better answer this but you may not be covered by the side lobes (these lobes give coverage to people close to the tower)

Also note that having strong signal has in NO way got anything to do with crappy download speeds. Some of the users on this forum have very good signal quality.

If your requirement for internet access is "always" on with no critical requirement for low latency or consistent bandwidth/throughput then this service may well be for you.

I personally would not recommend this service as I do not believe it to be working properly at the moment.

Nico, I can't really say whether you'll be able to get signal or not. Best to get a signal test done. As for the great signal, that's not a deciding factor. There's lots of people with great signal out there that still get bad performance.

The problem appears to not be with the modem to tower communications, but rather Sentech's lack of bandwidth upstream. All of us had great speeds up until the beginning of May, and our signals are still the same as they always were.

The problem with the service is nothing that an end-user can solve, in any fashion. We've done all we can.

Why not get it and then see if it works for you. if u not happy then send it back. you do have i think 7 days to cancel and send it back.

Glory Glory Man United!

Sentech will just find a way to screw you over in that 7 days. They'll unexpectedly close their offices due to upgrades and open 8 days later ... which will leave you with a brilliant 12/24 month contract of crap service and 14400 speeds.

Absolutely, especially if there are a couple of floors inbetween you and the tower. Steel reinforced concrete is a signal killer.
But maybe you can then get a reflection off a building nearby.
