Hello all,

I have heard rumours that sentech speeds have been better over the past few days, is this true?

nothing to get too excited about.

Most of my downloads though are through p2p.

I am on the old "128 package" (Lawd only knows what that means these days) and I have been getting a reliable stream of around 6kB/s on a bad day and around 11 kB/s on a good day. There have been more days good than bad though but the bad days are 1 day too many. I have been averaging around 20GB a month for a while now.

I rarely download through http; except when patching a new win2k box; that takes the whole day, I still wonder why Proxy+ can't cache as well as I want it too but that is a different matter.

I am on the woodmead tower.

BitTorrents fly at night ... rock solid @ 14KB

HTTP is good enough during the day ... v.good at night

all on 128K package....

I'm loathe to say it .... but MySmokeSignal kicks MyIBust Out of the water atm (for me anyway)

I'm using a 256K package - Very satisfied!
Disconnects are very rare.
Sentech took a long time to get their act together, but you can't compare
MyWi now, to what it was in 2004.

interesting.. I hope it improves even more, and let this be a sign to iburst.

I am also very happy with my 512kb Sentech link, runs smoothly. Uptime is great, generally around 20 days before I get dropped.

Just did the Telkom speed test, its even faster sometimes.

Your line speed is approximately 441.8 Kbps or 54.1 kBytes/sec

same good experiences here
128k package in CT and p2p speeds are very good (considering it's only a 128K package)

when i go all out, i can generate 1.2 Gig of traffic in 24 hours without downtime.

Definitely a lot better than a few months ago, but i wonder it is b/c they improved their service or b/c there are so few users left?

My speeds on my 256k package are EXACTLY what one would expect from a 256k product. Happy customer.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :D

I'm happy. Damn reliable, and the speed is more than adequate.

now all of us who would like to see a cut in prices, raise your hand...

(i'm not being cheap, but it is a bit pricey for that amount of bandwidth - although the relatively high cap makes it less painful)

yep by the sound of things regarding sentech improving magically ;P a pricecut would make it more attractive.

how does sentech work exactly, like with iburst now i get 1mbit till capped and then 64k, but I hear sentech is shared, so if someone was to sign up to a 512 package would they get 512 or is that 512 between liek 60 people?

whats the fastest ytou get with sentech?

The sentech speeds may vary depending on the number of concurrent users downloading on the tower you're connected to. They only guarentee 44kbits/sec which sucks. I seem to be stuck on one of the towers where someone is downloading non stop. Last month it was pretty good but this month seems to average just over 100kbits/sec.

Slim, on a 512kb package you can expect speeds 2.5x slower than iBurst. Also Latency seems worse (if thats possible). On a multithreaded download you can expect 40-50kB/s during office hours and it will peak at 55kB/s after hours.

Overall its not too bad considering that WBS peaks at about 140kB/s. The main advantage is obviously that there is no cap.

ATM, I would have to say the Sentech is far more stable than iBurst.

Please let's not support sentech's false claim that their service is uncapped. It is not, it is just capped higher than the competition.

Sorry, your right. Although I must say I never gotten any nasty "warnings" from them before.

Sentech at the mo is very reliable. We use it at the office.
I can not honestly remember the last time we had any problems with it <touch wood>.

The speed test I did now shows "our line speed is approximately 327.2 Kbps or 40.1 kBytes/sec"

Thats on a 512K package.

Sentech has a much better support desk than iBurst, and it's far more reliable. I honestly cannot recommend an iBurst for Business use. Far to unreliable.
Sentech would be my first choice for a business next to ADSL.

Hmmm, seems like they fixed whatever they broke. Cause since august 2004 i didn't get that high a speed on a test... thank g0d i have adsl now...
