Sentech - Wireless Broad Band The Technology.

This topic is stale. If you consider most of your Net users, they could care less about what "wire gauge is used by ADSL".
What everybody cares about is deliverables - does the service actually give you everything it promises?

Whilst most ADSL users agree that the actual speed of their rated 512kbps connections is never consistently near that, ProASM has demonstrated with screenshots that the MyWireless 512k package actually delivers the rated speed it promised.

I think you are dissing a lot of people in forum by suggesting that they are foolish in taking the plunge into a new technology - if nobody takes the risk Sentech will go nowhere. There are also guys like ProASM who are clearing spending huge amounts of time trying to deliver a quality alternative to Hellkom - somehow I doubt Hellkom will ever match that on an effort for effort basis; and for that we have got to support them.

knob - quit worrying about the technology and look at the bottom-line:
ADSL is capped, overpriced, under-speed and hideously supported.
So far MyWireless is only be hideously supported - and this is during rollout phase, so hopefully once the teething is over the support service will improve. ;)

Because they're a BIG, GREEDY, MONOPOLY intent on keeping South Africa in the stone age.

I never called any one foolish, I simply made a statement to say that we should look before we leap, I never "dissed" anyone.

Also why do you refer to Telkom as Hellkom, becuase they are a monopoly?

If Sentech is the only company offering 3G MyWireless, then they to are a Monopoly, until the other cellphone providers, begin to offer this service to and I do not belive they will cause the have to purchase 3G licences first. (Unless they have already?)

u wanna try imply that sentech is a monopoly... rofl, more like revolutionary! They are the first damn company to actually provide a real competition threat to HELLKOM.

I also refer to Hellkom as such because satan himself couldn't have conceived of a more constrictive, self-important, backward and just plain selfish company if he tried. I bet that if the govt. suddenly woke up and opened up the communications industry regulations, Telkom would get its greedy ass kicked by one of the many world-class foreign operators that would pull in.

I'll give you that, although it would seem quite a technical one since Sentech's MyWireless option puts them in direct competition with Hellkom - and surely a monopoly by definition has no competition?.
IMHO Sentech does not appear to abusing its "monopoly" status anything near the extent that Hellkom does - probably because of the afore-mentioned competition...

One can never compare 128 ISDN to 128 broadband. IDSN provides a dedicated pipe running at that speed up to the ISP. Broadband basically offers you a maximum throughput at that speed when available. Remember we have contention ratios which implies we are sharing. Broadband won't make sense if you want to run at full speed all the time. The difference in these services are also the difference in what you pay. That is why DIGINET is so much more expensive.
 
One of the tech support guys at the support line told me that during BETA testing they were getting up to 128Kbps whereas now its between 80-110 Kbps. However, he did say that as the need arises, they will add more bandwidth so thus "it will never get down to 20-30Kbps" were his words..

I wonder just how low it will go? Also how will they 'know' when it is unacceptably low? We will have to moan..

Has anyone experienced any decrease in speeds yet on 128?
 
Another advantage of wireless is thunderstorms. We have a storm at the moment, my isdn line has been knocked out at the exchange, which is normal. 5-12 hours before it will be up again. Mywireless is still working 100%

ISDN is also contended. You may have a 128k connection to your ISP but from there your bandwidth is contended with everyone else. Sentech's tower contention ratio is 35mb:1000 users (according to info posted in previous threads) which means at worst you get 35kb, however the chance of all 1000 users downloading simultaneously is tiny. In reality their Internet bandwidth is a lot more likely to be the bottleneck when you experience slower speeds.
 
from what i have been reading on this post its Telkom based products vs sentech... sure telkom has been around for a long time but still, they have not sorted out simple little problems. i have 200 data circuits 2 diginet circuits and one adsl circuit. they all work fine but get cut on a regular basis... according to telkom mannager there was a problem in the accounts department for a while (shame).

sentech has been broadcasting for god knows how long (i sure dont). not once have i had T.V problems...

in the end i hope telkom has nothing to do with the internet coz they are doing a *** job nad over charge.

so sentech keep doing what you do best!

no i dont work for sentech...
