A learner driver who used her mobile phone 44 times behind the wheel before crashing into a cyclist near Koroit, Australia has been fined R44 000 and her licence revoked for nine months.

According to Australia's Standard.net.au, Kimberley Davis (21), pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court. She was originally charged with 47 offences relating to each use of her phone while driving.

'I JUST DON'T CARE'

The cyclist suffered a spinal fracture, a broken toe and lacerations to his head and body. The cyclist was originally told he could be paraplegic and spent three months recovering following surgery.

Davis drove to a supermarket in east Warrnambool when she hit the cyclist on Penshurst-Warrnambool road on September 20 2013. The cyclist was struck from behind and reportedly used lights on the back and front of his bike.

The victim told the court that Davis dialled 'triple-0' (Australia's emergency services number) after the crash but refused to help him and parked 100m further up the road.

Authorities interviewed Davis two days after the incident.

Davis reportedly told police: “I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bullsh*t and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it.

“I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don’t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn’t on my phone when I hit the cyclist.”

Records showed Davis used her phone 44 times during her drive, sending and receiving 22 text messages to seven numbers.

Police revealed that at 7:18pm on September 20 2013 she received a text message and 51 seconds later contacted authorities after hitting the cyclist, reports the Standard.net.

There was probably an a-hole biker behind her egging her on or distracting her or something. :D
I can feel it...

Or maybe that's who she was texting... her a-hole biker boyfriend.

To be fair, the cyclist shouldn't have been in the road in the first place. The road is no place for bicycles...

putting this poor (pretty) girl through all that trauma!
