Hi Guys

Its been 4 months since i upgraded my telkom line from a 512k to a 4mb
eversince ,iv been having the worst possible speeds, i have a telkom and mweb account and both of them are slow,

on numerous occasions iv logged calls with telkom and even bought a new modem, it seems that my line is getting worse, i have aslo spoken to the MWeb guy to refresh my account a number of times and it doesnt help

im not sure if this will help, but if i downgrade back to a 512k or 1mb, will that help ? i have a feeling that 4mb is way to unstable on my line

please let me know your thoughts

Sounds like you are too far from your exchange to have a stable 4Mbps connection. Best to downgrade in increments and see what holds. If you can get hold of Telkom support, ask them to take it down to 3Mbps and see how it syncs. Else, keep going down until it's stable.

What are your router stats?

Sync problems - get Telkom to do a sync test. 1Mb might be stable.

I had the same issues in Bryanston. I was 6KM away from the exchange. Best sync speed I could get was 2MB.

im about 700m from the telkom exchange, Telkom was at my place and said the line is running 100% for 4mb,
they suggested i buy a new router since i was using a billion, once replaced i got 3.6mb connection that night(once off) and its been below 1mb ever since,

router says 409kb downstream and 512 upstream

What are your attenuation and noise ratio's according to your router? They'll give us a better idea of the problem.

You might be 700m from the exchange, but the cable might run a different route to the exchange and could be even double that. Best is to post your line stats and we will know immediately where the problem lies.

I called telkom and they were quiet helpful , my line has been dropped to 3mb on last friday and it worked quiet well, then saturday morning it was back to sh**t.

Telkom says that the line syncs at 4mb (full) according to them and also did a port refresh

im currently downloading from a local newshost

youtube is slow
browsing is slow but acceptable.

im really at wits end here
