Oh my God. I loved this game years back and finished it on my old PC. Thought it was time to dust it off and replay. Boy was I wrong.

Firstly, the game doesn't even play. I resorteded to all kinds of fancy hacks n cracks just to get the damn thing working (SecureROM issues) and detect an original DVD. And yes, I own a 100% legal copy that I paid R389 for, back in the day.

When I eventually got it to run, I was shocked to see that the game is sometimes unplayable. There is a stuttering problem that occurs now and again, which 'seems' to be related to enemies on the screen according to some forums.

Surprisingly tho, the graphics still hold up if you switch everything to MAX. It actually looks damn nice and pretty. It's such a pity that you can't play it tho.

Just for the record, my PC is way, way above the recommended specs. The latest patch, 2.070 is applied.

Also, I'm talking about SSII, not SS: The First Encounter or SS: The Second Encounter.

First n 2nd encounter kick ass. 2 was a little bleh imo. Cant help you with performance other than saying patch it

its practically impossible to play warcraft 2 on a new pc,its just too damn fast to see whats going on,maybe its something similar?

I downloaded and installed the latest patch - 2.070, so the game is running with latest patch.

Might wanna try run it on one processor. Since it doesn't support two it might give some probs. Plus I find the performance of older games wth Nvidia 8800 series crappy. Including every game using the unreal engine before UT3. Something to do with shader 2.0.

the game came out in 2005/2006 so it shouldnt have a problem with new hardware @ all
