Seriously now... AVG VS MSE VS Avast

Seriously now which one? I have had to remove Bitdefender 2012 from a family's laptop cause it's caused it to go very very slow for some odd reason. I use Eset myself but it's too expensive to get for them. Now I want to know which one between AVG, MSE or Avast for a person who Facebook's a lot and does most email than the average user. :confused:

According to this AVG is best but they don't include MSE cause apparently the did it last year, but I can't find the article anymore.. :mad:

I'm leaning towards Avast, cause it does everything and isn't dissed as much as AVG is. MSE I'm not sure about since it does not* do email scanning afaik.

Sandboxie + mse == no infection, period.

Afaik comodo also features sandboxed browsing...

Can't suggest sandboxie it would be impossible for me to teach my family how to use it, I'm remoting from Durbz to Cpt right now sorting this out.

Afaik it doesn't scan email which I'm afraid would be the reason they would get viruses if I installed it.

Avast also has a sandbox. I am using Avast now since 2006, with no problems. It's the only one of the 3 that can detect rootkits, as well.
I have used AVG prior to avast, it slowed down my PC. Okay, that was 6/7 years ago, maybe its fixed, but friends of mine told me that it is still the case.
And personaly, I don't like MSE. Also, I had heard rumours that MSE may be discontinued in the near future. Don't know how true that is.

So, my suggestion is, Avast! You won't regret it.

I have been using MSE for some time now and I haven't had any infections or problems. Definitely what I'll be sticking with for the foreseeable future.

I somehow doubt that. MS wouldn't overlook the obvious virus entry point.

I'd go with MSE or AVAST. Def not AVG. Avast will def be heavier on the pc than MSE.

I use virtualbox instead of sandboxie for trying out super sketchy apps. Personal preference though.

That was a typo sorry: MSE I'm not sure about since it does not* do email scanning afaik.

I've already installed Avast on the Pc, if there's a problem with Avast or if it fails me, I will change to MSE.
 
AVG, it's the only anti-virus I've ever used, just download the business edition 2012 on piratebay :D

You're trusting a Anti-virus that you downloaded from a Torrent site? How do you know the installation files haven't been compromised? Or the crack is safe? If I were a hacker, that is how I will get a back door on your PC, in the crack.

This is such a horrible plan its not even funny.

Things off PB often come with viruses, and if bundled with an AV you can bet your cotton socks that they made sure the virus isn't detectable by it (rootkit style). This assumes of course that the AV isn't crippled in any way, which it will be since you need to patch the AV to crack it & AVs check their own exe first thing. And finally, AVG Free and AVG Business use the same AV database so you just incurred a lot of additional risk for little gain.

If you've got something you're happy with then its all good.
 
AVG has let a few things slip in the past. Been using avast for a few years... Will recommend it anytime.

For free stuff .... MSE first, Avira second.
For paid versions... Kaspersky or NOD32.
 
Thinking of putting up a features comparison and a poll thread for the different anti-viruses, specifically the free ones.
