Anyone tried it yet?

I installed it on a little Mecer Cape 7 System (Atom, 2GB RAM and a 60GB SDD) and it outperformed the previous Windows 8 installation by miles. Both installs were running the following:

- Outlook 2013 with 2 exchange accounts.
- Dual Screens
- Loads of browser Windows (most of what I need for work is SaaS).
- a few RDP sessions with local resources redirected.

Going to attempt to see if I can get most of my apps running and adopt it as a full blown OS.

Disclaimer: I don't require any graphic apps or games, more keen to see how much you can get out of cheap hardware.

IMHO one area where Microsoft has fallen a little behind as a result of the integration of lines is in dropping of Home Server and not getting Multipoint up to full fruit is the lack of a proper workstation in a networked environment OS offering

I tried this back in the day when I converted Server 2003 to XP. Certain apps refused to install because the platform identifier was wrong. Except for the odd app installation issue, it ran much better than XP.

Here's a wrinkle: how about building a box (foundation) on (free (it's the hypervisor core only, and leaves space to spare on a (say) 30GB SSD for its functionality)) Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, which would give you a neat-o way to end up with a range of boxen in one unit.

I already have a virtual lab (all running off Server 2012 Hyper-V) running just about everything from Windows to Linux (desktop and server) for various management and automation policies we need to test.

Anyway I have jumped in and installed Server 2012 R2 std on my MacBook pro (retina SSD version) and it is awesome! So far I have not had any issues (once the desktop experience is installed) as it is basically Win 8, just quicker. So far I've only got MS software installed but I am hoping to get some of my Adobe products on this weekend.
