I have a PLEX server that I have built up and use extensively. Due to moving, I no longer have the space to keep this server, and am considering putting this server in a DC. What DC would you guys recommend, and how much would I be looking at cost wise to have the server in a rack in a DC accessible from anywhere?

TIA

Wow, that must be some Plex server! :D

Probably work out very pricey, how much are you looking to spend?

It really is quite something :) in the region of 8tb of media.

At the moment in this is just me researching the costs and trying to figure out what to do...

8TB.

I run double that of my pc with plex on it.

Ye, I doubt it's worth the money colocating. I thought you were talking about some 128TB beast that used a ton of power.

For something your size I'd suggest just getting a much smaller and power efficient solution then. Possibly a HP Microserver and shove 4 x 6TB drives in raidz2 (this is my plan). Also depends how much transcoding horsepower you need though but you can build a nice small footprint case using this: http://www.wootware.co.za/cfi-a7x79...i-itx-chassis-can-be-used-as-nas-storage.html - I had this in mind too but it works out slightly more expensive than the Microserver solution but you can put a CPU of your choosing in there.

its not worth the cost to colo that small of a server.. for around 2 months worth of colo, you can move the storage off to a hp microserver or to a soho nas device like a qnap or something.. lets also not forget about network outages and power outages leaving your plex server inaccessible for periods of time..

yup yup, gotta agree there. seems like it wont make financial sense :( but thanks for all the feedback provided in any case ;)

I might be able to help you. Send me a PM with your monthly data transfer expectations and the size of the machine (1U/2U).

thanks for all the responses gents. Have decided that the server is just going to be hosted at my flat as its the easiest/cheapest option out there at the moment.
