People,

Where can i find a decent server hardware store ? Ive found Pinnacle Micro but they only want you to buy from their resellers and well none of them have a decent website or even respond on their e-mails.

Im looking for a SunFire x2100 series so if anyone knows anything please let me know :-)

PS; A place that sells seperate 1u or 2u cases AND proper power supplies would be nice too :)

Try Axiz for 1u and 2u stuff and PSUs.

Dunno who does Sun. Must it be sun? Tyan server boards should be good too, they have boards up to 4 Opterons.

I once tried to make up a price for a Tyan-based "server" about 2 years ago. 2x Quad CPU boards with 4x dual-core Opterons, a piggyback board with another 4x dual-core Opterons, each CPU with 16GB RAM and uber-large drives and ofcourse some SLI type video cards (really need those for a server :D) and I hit R300K before thinking about a chassis to put it in. :(

Anyway, try Frontosa for Tyan. I recall they had them on the price list.

Thing is with Tyan,

They are simply one of the "self proclaimed" best, ive had numerous products from them in the past but as soon as the **** hits the fan ure stuck with a huuge bill. For my needs i need to stick to 1 vendor or 2 big ones. This makes the service contract cheaper and ensures a steady flow of identical machines.

The config you chose back then was kinda ridiculous, hence the price :D

Yip, that's right. It was an exercise in ridiculousness and I succeeded. :D

Then just get an Intel server (chassis, board, CPUs). No failure and no hassle to date and they've been up 24/7 for months (power permitting).

Frontosa doesn't sell Tyan. Rectron will sell you Intel, or if you're looking for a DIY option, get a 1U chassis from Cyberdyne and fit your own Mobo / RAM / CPU / HDD, etc.
