Server room stepped

Is there a reason why a server room is stepped to one level.Actually how up should one
go.

Not 100% sure, but could be to lay the large amount of cables below?

It's for cooling to allow a natural convective air flow. Also makes space for cables.

I know we did this in my old office to prevent water damage in case of flooding, but it was a high risk area and this obviously made a lot of sense for that installation.

Just make sure you have a ramp and not steps..

Usually for cables. Possibly also cooling. None of those that I have visited have been on the ground floor, so not normally against flooding.
